I hate this timeline
THIS is the bad place!
Looks like Trump is going to touch us all in the bad place.
Hopefully Chidi and Eleanor will save us all soon.
Forking orange shirtball
I thought we escaped the worst timeline where Trump won in 2020, but it seems we never left it. This is even worse… packed SC from the start, granted complete immunity right from the get-go…
My only solace is that people endure far worse and manage to find some level of happiness. So just gotta endure and take care of each other and our own and keep searching for daylight
If there’s any silver lining a meteor might hit us and put us out of our misery before we have to worry about wet bulb temperatures
And it hates us ❤️
America is a country full of stupid people.
This is happening all over the world. The USA are just a little further ahead compared to Europe.
That’s true, but whataboutism doesn’t help much in a thread about the US election. Besides, in hardly any other democratic country in the world is the far-right or fascist candidate so obviously completely unsuitable: Trump has already been president and has previously made policies contrary to the interests of the idiots who voted for him; he has a criminal record for fraud and has been found guilty in various proceedings for many other crimes, such as sexual harassment, defamation and fraud amounting to millions. It doesn’t get any more obvious than that.
Yeah but so many people here didn’t vote for him and are just as appalled, so when we’re lumped in with the people who did vote for him that’s gonna make people pretty defensive
Yes, I get that of course. I’m sorry for you and every other US citizen that did not vote for him. I’m from Europe and still posted some anti-Trump stuff because I despise him and everything he stands for. I think he is a threat for the whole world.
It’s not whataboutism when OC was the one saying it is a US specific issue
OC said America was full of stupid people. I can’t see how that means that the US would be the only country full of stupid people. Of course there are lots and lots of stupid people elsewhere. Pointing that out in the context of the US election sure sounds like whataboutism to me. My only point is that it does not make things any better just because there are other countries with similar issues. But I see what you mean and think you are right: maybe other countries can learn something from this debacle - I don’t have much hope anymore in that regard but we will see.
But the original comment, calling us all morons, is helpful?
No, of course not. It’s just that even people from other countries are pissed because the US elected Trump a second time. Now we have to deal with his horrible policies again. I personally think the man is a threat for the whole democratic world and because of his horrible positions on climate change and other issues even for the whole world.
And you’re right about all this, but calling us all idiots specifically is not helpful. Millions of Americans are incredibly upset by this. It will be disastrous and there’s not a fucking thing we can do. We voted and it didn’t matter.
I’m sorry if you took my comment that way. I’m really the very last person who wants to lump an entire country together. My point was simply that this election has once again shown that there are significant problems in the US (education, racism, corruption, inequality, etc.) that have allowed Trump to deceive the population yet again. To relativize now by pointing out that things are just as bad or even worse elsewhere in the world only distracts from the real issue in my opinion. Nevertheless, I wish you all the best and very much hope that you can somehow put a stop to Trump’s greed and his terrible ideology.
Thanks for trying to make us feel better, but…
To be fair, isn’t everywhere? Yeah I get it we have some real morons but the uneducated fucks that voted for Trump don’t define us
Sorry, we live in a democracy and the majority rules.
What point do you think you’re making?
That we are defined by them because we are a democracy, and pretending America is somehow good doesn’t change that.
I didn’t pretend America is good. It’s quite clearly a piece of shit. I won’t humor anymore snide bullshit because my point was very self evident
Yes, and I disagree with it. The uneducated fucks who voted for Trump most certainly define us.
51% of voters at least.
Whatever helps you cope.
We are so fucked. The repercussions of this election are going to effect everything from SCOTUS to county courts. This is so utterly disgusting. People looked at the shit spewing from his mouth and said, “Yes, represent me.”
Fuck this country.
This SCOTUS is the real issue. By the end of this term, Trump will have appointed 7 of 9 justices if Thomas and alito take the opportunity to retire.
The Supreme Court will be changed for a generation. I’ll never see a moderate court again in my lifetime. Alito and Thomas will step down and Trump will appoint 40 year old partisans to the bench. The damage he is about to inflict on our institutions the next 2 years will be irreparable.
Personally, it kinda feels like a weight’s been lifted. Now I can let go of the last shred of pretense of this country being anything other than a fat fucking joke.
I’m now aware that the US contains 71 million fascists, racists, sexist, bigots, or a combination of all 4.
I stopped by Walmart today and spent the entire time painfully aware that I was… surrounded.
I’m with you there. I mean don’t get me wrong, I sure do feel depressed and also morbidly curious/looking forward to the upcoming schadenfreude, but yeah just accepting that America is really a racist country and it’s not going to change.
Just going to bide my time here since I’m too old to move even with a tech job and encourage my kid to go to college abroad.
I was really hoping this sentiment would take hold the first time Trump won and it would awaken people to the boiling pot mass charade we are in.
It did not.
I do not have much hope for this time around.
Every time something terrible happens, we expect that at least we got to learn from the experience.
And then…

You dumb fucks.
I voted for Harris but I can’t help but feel democrats did this to themselves. We’ve held a decent amount of power over the last 20 years but have done shockingly little. Just slowly letting our country dry and shrivel, leaving people increasingly desperate. Times like these make people seek change, ANY CHANGE, including voting for a dictator. Status-quo politics will fail every time during times like these. Who wants to die slowly?
All authoritarian countries are born from desperation. Chinese communist party, Nazi Germany, the USSR, Iran, North Korea and soon America.
They absolutely did. Harris couldn’t even commit to keeping Lina Khan on board.
Democrats are allergic to success.
Yeah, I think a lot of dem voters have grown really apathetic. Democrat leaders hardly do anything so there’s a sense of pointlessness. It feels like their pitch is “we’re gonna fix everything by doing nothing! Trust us guys it’s gonna work this time!”. Trump says a bunch of bat shit crazy stuff that at least makes seem hes committed. I think that’s the key here.
Because Democrats wanted to not look partisan instead of actually doing something with their majority
Exactly this. And if you point it out, you’ll get all these reasons why it was impossible for Dems because of X, Y and Z, but deathly silence when it comes to “well but why were the Rs able to accomplish so much”? They’re managing to get people into office and do things while the Dems constantly flounder - which leads to even worse election results as constituents lose more faith in their ability to lead.
It’s a self fulfilling prophecy at this point. Dems are ineffectual, so they struggle to win elections, so they struggle to have the power to do anything, thus looking like continued failures and ensuring more losses down the line.
The whole party needs to be severely gutted and reborn. Or a third party needs to rise up and start speaking for the average progressive voice that’s not being heard anymore.
It leads to apathetic voters too, democrats who dont bother voting because they figure it won’t change anything.
The dems have an identity crisis, they are so aggravatingly centrist in an attempt to swing votes, that they’ve become incredibly passive in their approach. Republicans are determined to completely restructure America according to their ideology. Dems are so politically inclusive in their approach, trying to cater to “far left”, left, centrist AND slight right conservative that they are paralyzed concerning policy. The very best thing they can do is a 5% tax cut for the working class? Seriously?
I think if they went further left with candidates like Bernie, existing dems would be much more compelled to go out and vote. Right now they have zero commitment, almost none of Biden’s policies came to fruition.
Ah yes voting for a dictator is indeed innocent and blameless.
Moving to the right is a failed strategy. You will never be able to accept that.

I have never attempted to get anyone to vote third party. Not once.
Fuck conservatives always and forever.
Where I was wrong was with how narrow the result would he. It wasn’t even Gore v Bush levels of close unlike when Lichtman’s 13 keys prediction previously failed. Kamala lost the popular vote to a convicted felon that tried to usurp democracy and is the reason why abortion is no longer a federal right. The Republicans spent the last few weeks crapping on Haitians and Puerto Ricans, yet won some districts with large Latino populations.
This is what happens when Democrats ignore their voter base and choose a cabal of unpopular and uncharismatic candidates to carry the torch. The bar is now so low that we need James Cameron to venture out into the Mariana Trench and lift it back up again…
Harris was popular when she first announced. She then proceeded to run to the cold dead embrace of the Biden campaign.
Progressive policy is more popular than any candidate, if they focused on rent control, free healthcare, free childcare, free college and other immediate, material improvements to people’s conditions, they’d have won in a landslide. Instead they abandoned the rest of the country to pursue the <10% of republicans who weren’t in the bag for Trump.
Harris was popular when she first announced.
I don’t think she was popular when first announced, rather the fact that not-Biden was popular.
Absolutely.
I’m convinced that Biden would have won.
I personally believe that this is not Biden’s or Kamala’s fault. It’s the old-school Democrat establishment’s fault. They did Bernie dirty in 2016. And then they did the same to Biden in these elections. Lichtman predicted a Biden win, bad debate performance and all, and the dems fucked it up.
To be transparent, I still believed Lichtman when he said Harris would win. I will never believe in his stuff again, unless he adds new keys or something.
I personally believe that this is not Biden’s or Kamala’s fault. It’s the old-school Democrat establishment’s fault. They did Bernie dirty in 2016. And then they did the same to Biden in these elections.
Yes. Every time, even in 2020 when the mood of the country was very different, they are afraid to run anything other than center-right candidates because they “aren’t electable”. Guess what - your corporatist center-right candidates are consistently priming people to receive the protectionist messages from the fascists, Maybe fucking try something different some time, fucking DNC!
OK, the next question is: How do we convey this to liberals who think we want the dems to lose?
In the words of my boomer mother, “Things aren’t going to get better until the boomers die off.”
Instead they abandoned the rest of the country to pursue the <10% of republicans who weren’t in the bag for Trump.
YES! I held my nose and voted for her, she turned her back on everything that looked like hope and change during her campaign. Her reaction to R looking weak was to jump to the right, somehow.
Having said that, anyone who needed to be wooed to not vote for Trump was a lost cause, but she literally turned away from every sort of policy decision that excites Democrats.
California Proposition 33. Repeals ban on local rent controls.
61.6% No · 52% reporting
That’s bizarre, were people confused by the wording? Was there a media blitz by local landlords? More people are renters than landlords so obviously the majority doesn’t want rent to be higher.
Is there any chance that shit was rigged this time around? As an outsider it’s honestly just crazy to me that the difference can be so huge, almost unimaginable.
Even if it were - what are we gonna do about it? After shitting all over the place with their BS for the past four years, claiming an election is stolen has risen to “jet fuel can’t melt steel beams” levels.
There would need to be a 4k video of Trump and cronies detailing exactly how they were going to do it, and every detail would need to be easily verified, and even then I’m not sure it would get enough traction to matter.
Is there any chance that shit was rigged this time around?
There’s always a chance of almost anything, but it is very slim (conspiracy theory) with no evidence to support it:
“Importantly, we have no evidence of any malicious activity that had a material impact on the security or integrity of our election infrastructure,” per the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director Jen Easterly.
Source: https://www.cisa.gov/news-events/news/statement-cisa-director-easterly-security-2024-elections
We still don’t know what their “little secret” is.
Congratu-fucking-lations
I don’t wanna hear any more moralizing and complaining from young leftists who can’t even be bothered to perform their civic duty and vote. Shut the fuck up. What happens to Gaza in 2025 is on you, not Harris or the Democrats. And when you bitch about the genocide, remember that you facilitated it. You gave up your duty and gave Netanyahu exactly what he wanted, a clear path.
You’ve learned nothing. If you can’t win against a convicted felon and rapist with a national party infrastructure and billions in the bank you are a completely useless party.
Enjoy being relegated to the dust bin of history with the Wigs now that it’s clear to even laymen that the king has no clothes.
Yeah it fucking is; they ran a fucking campaign that ignored the anti-genocide movement and instead decided they would win by campaigning with God damn Liz FUCKING Cheney and Laura FUCKING Bush instead of God damn Palestinian Americans and the anti-war movement. They wanted to win by going to the center, and they once again fucking LOST doing it, and it’s somehow the God damn left’s fault? Maybe, when your candidate loses with a strategy that the left tells you is a bad fucking idea, it’s time for you to shut the fuck up, not them.
they ran a fucking campaign that ignored the anti-genocide movement
They didn’t! They sent the cops to beat the shit out of them and called us antisemites.
Like if the dems stopped the genocide, every person who was activated enough to risk their safety and future protesting would be doing everything in their power to stop Trump from resuming it.
To be fair those missing nearly 20 million voters who didn’t show up weren’t all or even mostly leftist and progressives. They’re your bog standard Democrats and independents that fucked everyone over.
Yeah but they’re not here arguing with us.
I voted so I’m sure you won’t mind hearing from this leftist. The problem isn’t people who didn’t vote. The problem is how the Democrats ran their campaign. They continue to punch left to try to appeal to moderate right-wingers who will never vote for them!
Instead, they should have punched right and tried to appeal to their base on the left. Even the “scary far left people” like me.
How to do that? They should have come out against the genocide in Israel instead of sicking the police on the fucking protesters.
But sure blame random individuals and what they chose to do. That sure sounds like The first step in fixing a large structural problem. /s
Not that it matters anyway, we won’t be voting again not for real anyway.
So you think a left leaning voter would vote for the Republican because the Democrat shifted to the right? That makes absolutely zero sense. The Republican would still be more to the right.
No, I’m not saying that.
I’m seeing a lot of left-wing. People will not turn out to vote if they don’t like the candidate. What really determines elections in the US or what did was election turn out. If turnout is high times when if turnout is low Republicans win. Turn out as low when Democratic candidate sucks and tries to appeal to right-wingers. Like we saw this election.
They are saying that Dems licked R boots and they lost a percent of their vote as a result. They kept trying to cater to the moderate republican when they should have catered to the nonvoting leftist.
I literally argued with Dems on Lemmy about how everyone needs to vote and we need to be advocating for greater voting access. I was called stupid for this, because obviously nonvoters will never vote and they must cater to the moderate Republicans who already vote because they know they will be there. I was told obviously Dems shouldn’t care about making sure everyone has the right to vote and voting access.
It’s legitimately bizarre to hear people say these talking points as if they help the Dems. They just advocate for fascism (taking away the right to vote) and get fascism (Trump). Well, duh.
I even quoted civil rights speeches amd Lyndon B Johnson to show them how this rhetoric is divisive. We are just at borderline civil war tensions and everyone is doing badly at being a whole community.
Funny how you never blame moderate republicans who refused to switch their vote.
Maybe you should appeal to someone else next time?
Warm regards to those communities and users commenting the “both bad” mantra for months. Going to be a whole lot of surprised pikachus today
Oh yeah, but no surprised Pikachu face when the Democrats use the exact same strategy that cost them the election in 2016 and lose doing it in 2024, right? That was really good and smart, huh?
This, Harris wouldn’t even lie about helping poor and marginalized people for fear of alienating that oh so coveted moderate Republican demographic.
Yep.
You are 100% right here. Courting R was possibly the worst thing they could have done. I refuse to believe that the outcome would have been worse had they instead embraced progressive domestic policies AND ALSO taken a tougher stance on Israels Gaza genocide.
I’m not even engaging with the Genocide-Joe commenters on this particular issue anymore, they think they changed something for the better today but god knows what. I felt and continue to feel that they threw out the baby with the bathwater. I don’t think the Gaza issue did this though. I think it was the immediate rebranding as Republican-lite that Kamala tried, beginning roughly 30 seconds after she announced her candidacy. It earned her nothing with the R vote, and alienated Democrats at multiple points on the spectrum.
And Democrat leadership can go fuck themselves for never having the courage to move left and stand by it.
Tbf I’d argue that the candidate switcheroo wasn’t exactly part of the 2016 playbook
Listen, the dems have to seig heil in all their ads to entice white moderate centrist suburban women in 2028.
Now shut up and vote for 99% hitler, do you want Trump to win his third term?
How much closer did you get to progressivism this election?
Zero, and that’s why the dems lost. Progressive policy is popular, republican policy from 2016 is not.
The dems are fucked until they do the things that get their base energized and going to the polls instead of triangulating themselves 2 inches to the left of the republican candidate to try to get the 2-5% of republicans who prefer diet-fascism to fascism.
How many progressive candidates gained seats in this election?
Seats were lost because the presidential election is what brings people out to vote. ~15% of the electorate stayed home because they saw a choice between the 2016 republican and a dem with the 2016 republican platform. The down-ballot races suffered as well as a result.
What if he ushers in world peace? Will that be on them or on Trump or will that be because of you and whatever DNC stooge is being anointed next?
Did you just invent a nonvoter leftist population in your head?
Removed by mod
So it’s the leftists fault for not voting hard enough between two pro-genocide candidates. What were we supposed to do to vote against the genocide, vote third party?
Again with this both sides are the same crap? See, you’re idiots. And all the blood of Gaza is on people like you
No, the blood is on liberals who allow the Democrats to support a genocide and get away with it without losing their votes to an anti-genocide candidate. Also on the Democrats for making their platform regressive and boring in favor of their donors so people lose interest in them and they lose.
You’ll never wash it away.
Keep coping, liberal.
At the end of the day, we both know reality has proven the leftists were correct the entire time, and that you were wrong.
And no amount of your little tantrums and hysterics will change that. Always the left’s fault that the DNC decided to usher in fascism instead of letting go of their stupid neoliberal brain rot huh?
History will remember you as Nazis.
It will stay with you forever, and you’re smart enough to know it.
You bathe in it.
It feels like the Lion King but Scar killed Simba as well.
Not only are we in the worst timeline…
I actually don’t have anything to add.
How did we get here? And even more terrifying how many people that actually went to go vote were surprised that Biden wasn’t on the ticket?!?!
And let me just go ahead and get myself in trouble. Fuck you every single person that didn’t vote for Kamala Harris that was eligible.
SPECIFICALLY…
Well I guess I don’t want to get in trouble that bad.
Yes, this is the fucking bullshit we live with. Due to our winner-take-all insanely backwards system…
I’m not technically allowed to properly criticize whomever didn’t show up to the polls.
Whatever groups they may or may not belong to.
Yeah I’m sounding like a motherfucking Maga bitch right now…
But guess what Arab Americans and black men??!?!!? ( if and only if those are demographics that didn’t show up to vote )
Get completely and totally fucked by the Trump administration. Has nothing to do with me and everything do with them
Edit:
For what it’s worth I’m terribly sorry for not including the Latino vote that went to Trump
Ultimately it doesn’t really matter which particular demographic I blame because the truth is I’m not blaming anyone in particular.
Fuck America, fuck me, and fuck Trump
And there it is, the fascist.
Really weird how everything liberals accuse leftists of is a projection.
But guess what Arab Americans and black men??!?!!? Get completely and totally fucked by the Trump administration.
lmao scratched liberal moment.
Why not blame whites, both men and women, who actually voted for Trump, despite the dems abandoning their base to appeal to them?
It’s everyone’s fault. We both know it.
Btw i specifically said : anyone not voting for Harris. Including POSSIBLY those demographics
Well, the only thing we can do now is hope it won’t be as bad as we all fear it could be. That and try to come up with a plan in case our worst fears are realized.
I think the rest of the world needs to start isolating the US. The US has too much power and poor leadership. Other countries need to find ways to reduce their exposure to and reliance on the US. I think the best way to do that is for the world to come together and create an independent global reserve currency. As long as the dollar is the world currency, the US will have all the power.
Wanna know what happens next? Check out history repeats itself, or any of the Project 2025 analyses.
Edit: Look on the bright side, at least we won’t have to take time from our busy schedules to vote four years from now.
Oh, there will probably still be an election. It will just be like the ones in Russia that are performative.
The 80 year cycle reset is upon us.
