I’m dismissing union leadership decisions as nonsense, not the workers’ issues. We actually had something similar happen in my city with this election. City needed a debt override to be popularly voted in to finance construction of a much needed new fire department HQ, but the firefighter union (and really all unions) have a terrible relationship with the mayor so they campaigned AGAINST it. It failed. Now they won’t get the new HQ unless they fire a bunch of firefighters or, i dunno, have a wicked successful bake sale or some shit. It was literally in no one’s best interest for the ballot question to fail but pure political shitassery made them campaign against their own and everyone’s interests even when significant time and even money was spent explaining in excruciating detail why there was no other choice than the debt override for it to happen.

There’s plenty you could do if no label was produced with a sufficiently high confidence. These are continuous systems, so the idea of “rerunning” the model isn’t that crazy, but you could pair that with an automatic decrease in speed to generate more frames, stop the whole vehicle (safely of course), divert path, and I’m sure plenty more an actual domain and subject matter expert might come up with–or a whole team of them. But while we’re on the topic, it’s not really right to even label these confidence intervals as such–they’re just output weighting associated with respective levels. We’ve sort of decided they vaguely match up to something kind of sort approximate to confidence values but they aren’t based on a ground truth like I’m understanding your comment to imply–they entirely derive out of the trained model weights and their confluence. All probabilistic models output a confidence value, and it’s very common and basic practice to gate downstream processes around that value. This person just doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Though, that puts them on about the same footing as Elono when it comes to AI/ML.

I’ve lived here (greater Boston area) for over 10 years now and, having grown up in and around WI, the level of racism here strikes me as virtually non-existent in comparison, and where you do see it (lots of systemic artifacts), there is a constant and loud pressure to address it.

I’m not saying that Boston doesn’t have issues with racism, at many levels and in many ways, but I hear people claim it’s exceptionally worse than elsewhere in the country and I’m just confused. At the end of the day, the likelihood of survival for any given Palestinian drops dramatically with trump as president as compared to Harris. Does this mean Harris is doing everything or will do everything she should? Absolutely not. But if you actually give a shit about people’s lives, then, yes, strategic voting, particularly in this case, is necessary mitigating action. Or maybe you don’t actually care about humans living or dying and are, like I said, just engaging in social media fueled performative bullshit to justify apathy and laziness.

She explicitly addressed healthcare, women’s rights, and economic relief in the fucking debate, not to mention she has actual platform and policy on all the other topics you mentioned.
