If this is meant to say that Lemmy is a cult-like social media, I kinda have to agree. Like Reddit and Twitter are, but only different in that people on Lemmy are more likely to be obsessed with Linux and be trans compared to the other platforms.
Lemmy still has the same “group think” or “hive mind” problem, its just different. More politically left compared to Reddit, which is still politically left but its not so far from center like Lemmy is. Like, Lemmy users have been observed telling people who are politically left that they “arent politically left enough.” Who says that, why is that even a thing to argue over?
Our Lemmy experiences are not similar.

I am convinced that few Lenny user experiences are the same — and that’s a good thing. I stand by the meme for the simple reason when I post to Lenny I’m not putting money into the pocket of anyone.
I guess that’s the biggest draw for me.
And that I feel users here, whether they agree with one another or whether they might be toxic, they are at least thoughtful and attempt to support their claims with reason and evidence.
And I never feel used at Lemmy the way I have on FB ETC.
That’s true. There is more genuine discussion on Lemmy than on any other platform. Facebook is completely devoid of anything meaningful these days, and reddit isn’t too far behind for everything except niche communities. Unfortunately Lemmy doesn’t have enough people or content for me to just stick to my niche communities like I do on Reddit, so I see a whole lot more doomerism, and political outrage here, despite my extensive block list.
Thinking about your name, Anticorp. Just watched The Internet’s Own Boy. It’s a doc on the life and death of Aaron Swartz. If you haven’t seen it you will appreciate it.
