I don’t know why people bother to buy foldable phones, if you want bigger screen just buy tablet…smh…
Tablet has bigger screen plus it’s cheaper than buying foldable phones

I have a foldy phone, I’m never going back.

if you want bigger screen just buy tablet…smh

I did, multiple times, sooo many times in all manner of price points, sizes, brands and even OSs (I’ve got fucking Windows tablets WITH cellular FFS just chilling in archive). Do you know what happened to them? They started collecting dust within a couple weeks

I don’t want to carry multiple devices, even when I do want to I can never get the habit to stick, so I never have the tablet when I need it the most

My foldy phone solves that issue immediately, it’s a phone when I need a phone and a tablet when I need a tablet.

        I’m just curious

Does the screen vertical folding bulge area (idk if it has its own name) somehow get in the way during day-by-day usage?

Do you mean the crease? Nah, I hardly notice it, I used to feel it when sliding my finger across one side to the next like to drag and drop things, but after awhile I stopped noticing that to

Why have a phone with a screen? Just use your computer if you need it, smh 🤦

Why have a phone at all? Just ask a friend to use theirs if you need it 🤷‍♂️ or maybe write a fucking letter for once? Damn kids…

Why use a computer when you can just wander, naked and fearless, back into the forest from whence we came. Climb a tree. Make a nest of leaves. Screech “Ook Ook!” to let everyone know this is your tree now.

I only contact people via my QRP rig, CW mode. Don’t talk to me unless you have a valid HAM licence.

I guess you have to try one. I got a samsung fold 3, i loved it. Then, when my contract ended, i got a fold 6. I would have a hard time going back to a standard phone tbh.

My wife said she wouldnt get a folding phone but when i got my fold 6 i offered her my fold 3. She ended up really liking it and wants to get a newer fold when her contract ends.

So theres me, who knew i wanted one and am happy with it to the point where i cant go back. And my wife, who didnt want one but after trying one for a few weeks, said she got it now and would be upgrading to a newer fold when the time comes.

They need to get these in peoples hands if they want to sell them better.

Btw, getting a phone on contract is usually more expensive than getting the phone and the contract separately.

Esit: seems a more Europe thing.

But i dont have £1700 to hand to buy it outright and buying on finance direct from samsung cost more than half what i pay on my contract per month. The contract is with o2 and they offer a separate airtime and phone plan. They are independant of one another. It would have cost more to buy separate with the airtime plan i have and the discounts i applied and extras i got for free with this particular contract.

Here in the US, it’s not, carriers do Equipment Installment Plans as the new “contract” but they’re all 0% interest for the most part, so it just the outright price of the phone broken across 24 months (or the option of 36 on AT&T iirc)

I have the same question about tablets. A tablet to me is like a laptop without anything good about a laptop.

tablet screen size is okay, but really the people who want bigger screens should be buying tvs. not to mention they have the advantage of being cheaper than tablets. but even tv screens can only get so big. a really cost effective way to get a big screen would just be to go to a movie theater. that’s like 10 dollars(?) for 2 hours of access to a huge screen.

I have similar question: Why did Samsung bother with developing foldable phones? It isn’t selling as well as they thought, after all.

It did decently for a while, then better competitors came to the scene that didn’t make the asinine decision to make it ridiculously skinny and ol Sammy refuses to change course on that so sales have been falling

      Word.

Phone for, uh, phone stuff, while I’m out and about. Pixel 4a, $70 on eBay.

PC and TV screen for internet.

Crappy $25 tablet for reading epubs.

Lemmy: NO! I want all my use cases on ONE device that doesn’t do any of them well!

OK, pay out the ass for it along with the associated global warming and ecosystem trashing. Oh, and the slave labor that took to produce it.

      Lemmy: NO! Not like that!
