Not OP but the subtitles are only part of the reason why anime is a bit hit&miss for me.
Another is the tone, a lot of the emotions are extremely over-exaggerated and in some shows it goes so far as having the characters almost constantly shout. This makes it hard for me to form an emotional bond with the characters, e.g. I aborted my attempt to watch Attack on Titan after about two episodes when I realized that I didn’t care if any of the characters lived or died with a slight preference towards them dying because they were annoying to watch in some cases.
Not sure if it is quite the right term for drawn content but the cinematography conventions in anime can also be annoying with e.g. zooms from extremely wide shots to extreme close-ups. Kill La Kill was a particular negative example among the anime I tried watching that I can remember.
That said, some anime is perfectly fine but it is usually more the kind that is closer to western animation in style and character behaviors (leaning more towards realistic character looks and camera angles and lighting you would see in reality).

If they addressed the general problem it would also affect US social media platforms and they want to continue doing that when American companies do it.

It can certainly be depressing at times but on the other hand not nearly as depressing as a complete disconnect between the bleak reality you observe yourself and overly positive portrayal in media (social or otherwise).

From what I recall high-speed USB was USB 2.0, mostly that is used today for stuff like mice or keyboards where speed isn’t really all that relevant.

The programs don’t really understand Chinese either. They are just filled with an understanding that is provided to them up-front. I mean as in they do not derive that understanding from something they perceive where there was no understanding before, they don’t draw conclusions, don’t understand words from context,… the way an intelligent being would learn a language.

Agreed, games that make you replay the entire game to see the 10% of content that were exclusive to a certain decision are not great at all. They are essentially just games with 10% less content for all practical purposes unless we are talking about something where restarting is part of the game play like Rogue-likes.

As someone who has lived through some of the time with newspapers and without social media, no, quality was pretty bad back then too.

You have to be a special kind of stupid to think games that rely on things like immersion, mood, power fantasies,… can be improved by adding multiplayer.

I don’t need to make world changing decisions when I’m playing “hero.”
This is something so many story tellers in gaming and movies don’t get. The story doesn’t have to be about saving the world, the universe, the multiverse or the entire nature of reality. In fact, I would prefer it if the stakes are low enough that the protagonist has actual choices instead of being pushed heavily into the “of course I am going to save the world” option of each “choice”.

Second Life has restaurants or bars though mostly people tend to hangout in less food focused ways and not sure you would count it as a game.

Imagine nonsense content on Instagram…
Isn’t that all Instagram ever was? Out of all the social media platforms it was the one that was essentially fake from the start, just fakes produced by the users.

Isn’t that essentially how that whole scam called advertising works in general?

Mystery boxes are another similar predatory business model that has brought similar predatory practices even to RL.

You are forced to pay either way or do you think hosting (both installers/updates and some sort of multiplayer matchmaking), marketing, payment providers,… all work for free? Without something like Steam you would just likely be forced to pay someone just to manage all of that for you as an extra employee (or multiple part time employees or outsourced services).
Don’t forget to never fix game breaking bugs.
Combined with a single save only mechanic so if you encounter the bug even if it doesn’t lead to a crash there is a good chance you have to start over from scratch because your last save game before the bug has been overwritten.
And of course you need to be always online with that account even though it is single player and all game data is already available locally.
Inventory expansions of the extremely tiny default inventory cost premium currency per month.
Oh, there are certainly some that are worth watching but overall as I said it is more hit&miss than other types of shows (and it is not as if e.g. live action shows or western animation is always great, far from it).
One thing I forgot that only affects some shows too is that anime sometimes seems to have multiple sub-series for a given series with names and no clear indication for the intended order of watching or if one is a remake of another or a prequel or sequel. They might be great but it is a pain to figure out and if you get it wrong you might spoil earlier shows since you started in the middle.
