That’s funny; my thigh hair is so thin I don’t even bother, even in the summer. Meanwhile my calf hair is darker and more obvious so that’s what I shave.

You think some of the right-wingers who decry climate change will adopt EVs via Tesla since Elon sucks up to their guy now?
I was a plaintiff in a civil lawsuit against a huge company. It was so rigged. The judge had overseen the class action lawsuit that we opted out of and acted like we were ungrateful little shits. But never in front of the jury; in front of the jury, he was all perfect law and order. But when they weren’t there, he was so obviously biased. I lost basically all faith in our justice system (USA). And I only had money on the line; for someone in a criminal case, it would be sooo much worse.
What’s your budget? I’ve been looking into ropes course kinds of things for my kids, basically slack lines that you can add stuff to. I think if you search for ninja line you’ll get hits.
My daughter lost her first tooth at age 6. We made the swap while she was sleeping, no problem. When I woke her up for school the next morning, I asked her about the tooth fairy, and she excitedly found the money under her pillow. She spent about ten seconds being excited before she looked at me straight in the eye and said suspiciously, “Mom, are you the tooth fairy?” Busted, lol. We still reward her when she loses a tooth because it’s fun. It took her another year to come to terms with Santa, though.
Just woke up hungover and realized she forgot to take her makeup off last night
I love Barn Owls too, but you gotta admit, they’re a bit scary looking and very scary sounding.
Speaking of which: I recently read a book that was a bit gothic in style, and the author described the character walking through the woods and hearing a screech owl. I immediately wondered if the author actually knew what a screech owl sounds like. My fellow owl enthusiasts, what do you think? Do you think she was imagining a Barn Owl sound but didn’t realize that screech owls don’t make that sound?
I was just thinking the same as I scrolled through this list! Can’t remember who they were up against but it must have been a tough seed. GHO is and will always be my absolute favorite, partly because their expressions are so cat-like and partially because their hoot is the best IMO.
Wut
I didn’t believe you. Had to zoom in and yeah, you’re right but that’s bizarre!
It’s nuts, right? That’s why it felt icky. My husband and I talk through all the stuff on our ballots together and we really went back and forth on this one. Ultimately we did vote for it, probably because we kept reading that the AHF had funded at least half of all the other props we were voting on, most of which had nothing to do with healthcare. But I’m still not sure that was the right vote. I’ll be curious to see how it shakes out.
I’m also watching prop 36 because I see all these signs for it in my neighborhood, but I’m against it.
The thing is, there’s only one org that meets the threshold for it and that’s the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which throws a lot of money at props in California and has some questionable stuff about being a landlord. From calmatters.org:
Proposition 34 would require some California providers to spend at least 98% of that net drug sale revenue on “direct patient care.” Providers that don’t risk having their state license and tax-exempt status revoked and losing out on government contracts.
But the proposition doesn’t apply to all providers — only those that spend at least $100 million on expenses other than direct care, that also own and operate apartment buildings and that have racked up at least 500 severe health and safety violations in the last decade.
As far as anyone can tell, that only applies to one organization: The AIDS Healthcare Foundation. \
The measure would also put into law a Newsom administration policy that requires all state agencies to negotiate for lower drug prices as a single entity.
I’m really curious how Californians feel about Prop 34. It’s kind of bizarre to see a prop that is actively targeting a single organization, even if that org is super sketchy. I felt icky voting on it, for or against.
Some of us Tesla drivers refuse to use any of their bullshit auto-driving software (I don’t even use lane assist anymore) because of bad experiences so hopefully most of them are just driving normally. Which I do admit may not spark much confidence given how terrible some drivers are.
Legit though, I would have loved a pregnancy book written in Monty Python style while still being informative. This book was dry.
I wonder if some of it is also being good to work with. I was just having a discussion with musician friends about how I don’t know how some people keep managing to get hired for gigs because I suspect they procrastinate looking at music, but they’re fun and otherwise reliable people so the hiring manager or whatever keeps hiring them because they like them, even if they’re not the most excellent musicians.
One of ours is kind of similar. We don’t put our hand all the way around her head but we definitely squish her ears down and pet her head really heavily and she loves it. If she’s really into it, you can start at her nose and pet her whole face, head, and neck, eyes and all. She’s very aggressively into it, lol.
I know it makes me super basic but… dragons. I know, it’s not inspiring. But I must add a caveat. I prefer that they are intelligent, on par with or surpassing humans in intelligence and willing (if reluctantly) to interact with them. Game of Thrones dragons are cool and all but they don’t really do it for me in the same way as, say, the dragon from Dragonheart.
It’s probably not the worst for me either but it’s easily the first thing I think of. Really left a bad taste I guess.
Thankfully I don’t use any of these except Shopify, which I can’t really avoid since so many non-Amazon businesses use them.
