Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Is there a good selfhosted service that can download and rehost tiktok links from a web ui?English
6·9 months agoWARNING
The docker-down.sh script associated with offtiktok runs a docker prune -f and will delete any unused docker containers you have without warning.

4·1 year agoMan, how did you find that? I wasn’t getting anything on ddg.
Anywho, looks a little buggy (it doesn’t seem to deal with website credentials, so I’m not sure how it ever worked), but it’s got the bones to do what I want to do. Thanks for the link.
Edit: Fixed it! https://github.com/patchy-oss/fwdl/pull/1

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Question about what to put on RAID and what to put on NVMEEnglish
2·1 year agoThanks for the tips. I’ll definitely at least start with mdadm since that’s what I’ve already got running, and I’ve got enough other stuff to worry about.
Are you worried at all about bit rot? I hear that’s one drawback of mdadm or raid vs. zfs.
Also, any word on when photoprism will support the Coral TPU? I’ve got one of those and haven’t found much use for it.

1·1 year agoMy new motherboard actually has a RAID controller for the M.2 slots. I know people frown on hardware raid, but given it’s the boot drive, it might just be easiest to count on it for daily operation and backup to the software RAID/something else every night.

2·1 year agoPicked up a LSI SAS 9305-16I. I was always planning to do software raid, so I think it’ll do the trick for zfs.

3·1 year agoI understand all of that. Sorry I didn’t explain it well.
I have a RAID6 for data and a single HDD for system files. I’d like to move the HDD to an NVME/SSD. I suppose I could make another RAID with an additional NVME, but I’ve found it easier to deal with booting off a traditional drive.
My solution for redundancy for the NVME is to just backup the bits that I need every night. These are usually just a few hundred megabyte database files. I’m curious if that’s a typical solution.
edit: to clarify, it’s a software raid with mdadm.

My secret is playing retro games. Knocking out a few levels of Ecco the Dolphin isn’t nearly as mentally tasking as booting up Cyberpunk.

Was it explicitly climate change? I thought it was “blight” or whatever fictional disease killing crops.
The Day After Tomorrow had a dude that was basically a stand-in for Dick Cheney so Dennis Quaid could tell him that he should have done more sooner.
Waterworld, earth covered in water after the ice caps melted.
Geostorm took for granted that we needed a global network of satellites to battle climate change.
And who can forget The Happening or Birdemic?
Oh, you wanted good movies? (tho I lowkey love Geostorm)
They injected internet ads into search
They did? Like filesystem search? I don’t see that.
I just went full linux on my daily driver about a year ago after running a headless linux media server for a few years.
Can someone explain to me why Ubuntu is so terrible? Is it not difficult enough to use or something?
According to where I learned it, in high enough densities in concrete tanks, some shrimp would grind their own eyestalks off on the side of the tank. Some farmer put two and two together.
Fun fact I like to share with everyone who enjoys shrimp. Up until the
90s80s they were very difficult to breed in captivity. They just wouldn’t reproduce.Until someone figured out that it you cut out one of their eyes, they will readily breed. Nobody really knows why, but they snip off one of the eye stalks on the females to get them to breed.

I think it’s the first time it’s happened since I upgraded my hardware over a year ago. 64 gigs of RAM and I rarely use more than 30% of it.
