Gay rights activists got started in the 1970’s and in the 80’s they got homosexuality taken off the list of mental disorders and in the 90’s it looked like Hawaii was going to legalize same sex marriage and then the conservatives took notice and passed the defense of marriage act and Bill Clinton signed it (yes, a Democrat) and then Iowa and Massachusetts courts legalized it at the state level in the 00’s and for 10 years we watched court cases and ballot measures go state by state and then in 2014 we got obergefell.

Republicans did not get us marriage equality, Democrats did. Republicans opposed it at every step. Even obergefel would not have happened if Clinton had not won and picked some SC justices. Clinton had a Republican house and Senate and he was more concerned with avoiding a government shutdown. Defense of marriage act was a Republican bill. Don’t ask don’t tell was a compromise with Republicans. Obama repealed don’t ask don’t tell after Dems took the white house and both houses of Congress.

It matters who is in charge, every year, every election. And the Republican hasn’t been the progressive option since teddy Roosevelt left the Republicans to form the bull moose party.

So acting like we need to punish the Democrats for not opposing netanyahu by electing Republicans is literally throwing Palestinians and poc and queer people and poor people under the bus for your own self rightiousness.

Abortion was illegal for 70-120 years depending on the state. It was 50ish years from the progressive era and the beginning of birth control to the ruling of Roe. Overturning roe was a 50 year political project by the right.

Electoral politics ends with the presidency. It doesn’t start there. Bernie worked for progressive causes for decades before running in 2016. He worked his way up from mayor to Congress to Senate. His near miss in the primary in 2020 pulled Biden to the left on several issues.

If you want to end support for Israel, and I agree we should end support for Israel, even if they stop the war tomorrow. Then you should be writing letters, going to county Democratic meetings and finding candidates to run for state legislature that share your beliefs.

Maybe they meant you don’t have to worry about living in authoritarian state if he wins.

This is a serious part of the problem. Home insurance, car insurance, can be bad, but at least you don’t usually have to deal with them. You can go years without needing anything from your home insurance.

You WILL need healthcare, minimum once a year. Most people need it every month or every few months. Your car insurance doesn’t pay for your oil changes or new tires because those are guaranteed maintenance costs, not unexpected emergencies.

What would you sayd they should do?

If it’s important enough that it can’t wait until tomorrow, it’s important enough to pay someone for.

Because paid operatives are expensive and knocking on doors is the most effective way to mobilize voters.

Senate will be tight in any realistic scenario. Tester in Montana is the most likely of the three I listed to come through and I donated to his campaign.

I will be voting against Ted Cruz and I am volunteering on weekends to help Collin Allred.

I have bad news about the Senate.

Reps are probably taking it unless Texas, Florida, or Montana comes through to glad Dems a 50/50 split.

Now if they can abolish the filibuster at least for adding states and also take the house, they could add DC and Puerto Rico and the next cycle would be friendlier.

Yes really. Obama promised hope and change, and with a few notable exceptions, he delivered not fucking things up for 8 years.

Biden promised to clean up Trump’s mess. He’s done this, and taken massive action on decarbonization, and kick started American Industry, and revitilised the Labor movement, and added protections trans people and women’s healthcare. Obama’s admin delived one major legislative accomplishment a year for 2 years and then putzed around with executive orders. Biden slammed the exactive order button the first month and then kept pounding it, while passing major legislative wins. He got Ukraine aid through a hostile Congress for God’s sake and that war is turning around. Biden has done more good in 4 years than Obama managed in 8.

I voted for Bernie. I’m still sore that he lost that primary, but Biden has legit impressed me both with how progressive he has gone and how adroitly he manuved through the legislative process.

I’m happy they did the right thing. I lived under Clinton, Bush, Obama, and Trump. (Don’t really remember Bush Sr or Regan personally) And one team helps us, and the other fucks us over. I will remember this in the voting booth.

Then we got the leaks saying the Chinese Military is Fubared by corruption down to the warehouse workers.

Russia could at least limp into Donbas when their Kiev assault disintegrated. If China tries to invade Taiwan and their missiles don’t launch, it will be a stupidly expensive, deadly, embarrassment. Just ships and planes littering the ocean floor.

There will never be more than 2 for more than 1 election cycle. Ross Perot couldn’t do it. Pat Buchanan couldn’t do it. George Wallace couldn’t do it.

Teddy Big Brass Balls Roosevelt couldn’t do it with with his Bull Moose Party as a two term ex president. If he couldn’t do it, nobody can.
