I saw this sign near a church once. It seems to be them admitting prayer doesn’t do anything.
Prayer is an act of no confidence, The reciter acknowledging that they know better than their god and his plans
Jesus demonstrated how to pray, but they ignore it. “not my will father, but thine be done”
They are refusing to accept their god’s judgement and go against his will. It represents a lack of trust and faith.
“Do not go among the gentiles”, “It is not meet to take the children’s bread and cast it to the dogs”
He doesn’t like his own cult.
… and then confidently declare that they made it happen?
They declare that God made it happen while conveniently forgetting all the other times nothing did.
But they were the ones that prayed, if it wasn’t for them bringing it up to the storm god of the desert’s attention, he would have done NOTHING, you see? The narcissism behind the veil of piety?
I’m right near the center of the goddamned Universe. In space AND in time! Praze Jayzus!
I can just about see it right here from my house in [Little Rock/Tulsa/Fresno/wherever-the-fuck-I-am], right in [1882/1932/1971/1999/whenever-the-fuck-I-am].At the center of a cartoon view of the universe, in the middle of nowhere, in a cultural and spiritual wasteland.
In all seriousness, though, please do yourself a favor and watch the first season of True Detective if you never have. It’s exceptional.
I saw it during its’ initial run!
It’s like they finally were able to pull off Tarkovsky-level television. It’s incredible.
