All of the numbers are fake anyway. You can just sit there and f5 the page to get views on your own tweet lmao

Yup just tried it again. Also basically anything counts as a view, scroll by the post, embedded tweet, scraper scraping the tweet. Almost every time the page is viewed by anyone or anything will bump the number even if it’s repeated visit from the same viewer withing short time frame.

I guess it’s kinda nice that it’s simply transparent like that for admins but that’s not what users expect - it’s a useless metric and very easy to inflate.

I’m tempted to fire up a dozen android emulators with a refresh loop to see how far this can be pushed but I really don’t want to have that shit platform on my mind longer than I have to tbh.

Wasn’t adding engagement numbers to each tweet one of the first things he added? I remember thinking “who the fuck wants to see that?” But I guess to people like him that was important at the time? Huh.

Decent first step with the Cybertruck. Though he botched it and instead of making owners pariahs, they turn owners into clowns and lacerated patients.

There’s a guy in Hawaii selling “I bought this before I knew Elon was crazy” bumper stickers for $10, and he’s already sold over 10,000 this year.

I never really understood twitter. Feels to me like it’s all about following personalities in a poor format that doesn’t cater to discussion. I’ve had an account since early, mostly for testing twitter integrations for work. I haven’t even bothered to log in for a couple of years.

I logged in yesterday just to deactivate my account.

I made a Twitter account in the early days when I was a teenager. The sole reason I made it was because one of my favorite bands had an account. Their posts would be sent in an SMS to my phone, and the cool thing about that was how it felt like they were texting me personally.

I have no idea when I last logged in, let alone when I last posted. When the SMS feature was dropped, so did my interest.

That’s an expensive way to sway an election. If that’s the case, critical thinking abilities of the average Xitter user is pretty fucking low. Breaking News: Shepherd Herds Sheep.

The average Twitter user is a bot let’s be honest.

It’s about manufacturing consent, and to musk, it’s chump change. What you would spend on a pricey hobby is what he’s doing at his level.

Also not just an election but society itself.

I disagree that him owning Twitter causes Trump to win. I have not heard any credible source make this claim. This sounds like 4D chess nonsense. He clearly did not want to own Twitter and didn’t know what to do with it either once he did and still had no clue how to use it.

Whatever responsibility can be placed on Twitter it would be them deplatforming him, allowing voters to forget how insane he is. This occurred prior to his purchase.

Rather than attempting to lay the blame for trumps second election on platforms, we need to come to terms with accepting that this is the direction that the majority of American’s wanted. This includes those who did not vote, since their apathy allowed Trump to win.

A plurality of Americans are very very dumb. The entire world knows this. We pretend they just don’t get us, know us, etc but we cannot ignore the reality exposed by these election outcomes.

I don’t think it can be proven, just like bezos owning the Washington post can’t be proven to sway things.

A bunch of billionaires owning consolidated media, what could go wrong?!

Trust me. Whether we can prove it or not, the whole purpose of buying Twitter was to kneecap the “left” in organizing (sorry but most are actually liberals, especially the PMC echo chamber that was Twitter and is now becoming Bluesky), push nazi content, and sway the election. Supposedly he’s going after the UK election too but I’ll be honest I haven’t been paying attention to that. A whole bunch of major democracies had elections this year. He swayed the most important one.

Have your fun here on the internet today, but just remember this “high” when your grandkids tell you you’re not invited to Christmas one day. The people around you see the garbage you are in full color. They see the world you didn’t care to save on their behalf. Enjoy that fucking loneliness and crawl to your forums for the only illusion of validation you’ll have left at that point, from a fucking bot.

Lemmy is definitely not an echo chamber. As a leftist there’s a ton of liberal simp vooooooote blue no matter who bullshit, followed by blaming everyone but their shitty ass candidate and even shittier ass party for the loss.

The right wing in contrast is in unison lining up to fellate trumps little mushroom.
