Cooling a pie on the windowsill is one of those cultural osmosis things where I’ve never seen anyone actually do it, but I know all about it nonetheless.
The only logical reason to put a pie in an open window is for it to be humorously stolen
Not true, how else do you show off to your neighbors and tempt them with something that they will have to ask your permission to have.

Grandma: “No, it needs a bit longer.”
