WASHINGTON (AP) — A longtime CIA officer who drugged, photographed and sexually assaulted more than two dozen women in postings around the world was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison Wednesday after an emotional hearing in which victims described being deceived by a man who appeared kind, educated and part of an agency “that is supposed to protect the world from evil.”

Brian Jeffrey Raymond, with a graying beard and orange prison jumpsuit, sat dejectedly as he heard his punishment for one of the most egregious misconduct cases in the CIA’s history. It was chronicled in his own library of more than 500 images that showed him in some cases straddling and groping his nude, unconscious victims.

“It’s safe to say he’s a sexual predator,” U.S. Senior Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said in imposing the full sentence prosecutors had requested. “You are going to have a period of time to think about this.”

Isn’t the entire point of the CIA doing evil and vile shit? This is just a normal Tuesday for them. I’m glad he is being punished. But damn, how can anyone think the CIA protects people?

the KGB is the same juice as the CIA in a different jug. one may be marginally better than the other, but that’s like saying Mussolini was better than…

goddammit, i didn’t mean to invoke Godwin’s Law this early in the thread.

This was an interesting book (although their economic analysis is not great). I think by now all the atrocities of the CIA are pretty well documented and the world is pretty informed. This book focuses on a period that took place about 75 years ago when the US (under Nixon, JFK and Reagan) had a strong anti-communist stance and active policy.

That policy is to longer an actionable framework for the US. It wouldnt be fair to attribute the current agency the same level of culpability. I’m not saying the current CIA is beyond scrutiny but times have changed and the world has moved significantly beyond the so called dangers of the cold war.

Take people with low empathy and train them up in psychological manipulation and covert operations. Color me shocked that this happened.

Not long enough. Should be exponentially more just in case we discover a way to massively increase the human lifespan.

Rape culture is alive and well. He should be in prison for the remainder of his natural life.
