With so much division at the federal level, it’s “nice” to see governors reaching out to each other like this. Maybe if they learn anything from this exercise, it’ll be reflected as more sound protections for their constituents in the form of bolstering pro-union, pro-solidarity grassroots movements.

Why do I feel like this is another manifestation of the “dominion over all” mentality? This seems to be a core value for those that practice Christianity and that hold misogynistic ideals. It’s just such a slippery slope to Authoritarian/Christian Nationalism from there.
I’m not surprised Cornell is taking this stance and employing this hasty methodology. They have a reputation for being a major business that benefits from massive money flow. It stands to reason that they care more about money than supporting students… Unless they have lots of money.
I love the point made about grassroots movements already doing good work for the community, and the entities controlling public land won’t allow tax payers to allocate a portion of public lands for planting. There should be a checklist of approved stuff you can plant, managed by the municipality, and that checklist should be available in multiple languages. I understand you shouldn’t just be able to plant whatever (if not food, then no non-native/invasive species), and there shouldn’t be harmful pesticide use to some extent, but given the amount of people living in food apartheids with no access to fresh produce, it seems like the least effort, humane thing to allow.
Thank you for saying this. If you’re not in a swing state, it feels like a waste to donate (although I wouldn’t donate to her campaign anyways because of her policies). I don’t support the duopoly and would prefer to see someone that needs the money actually receive it.
This article really struck a chord with me. Maybe it’s confirmation bias, but I feel so much of the same things described here, and I do see NYC changing as it was told. I love NY for exactly the diverse and no-nonsense, hard-working attitudes that persisted here for decades. All of the color of life that makes NY so unique is rooted in the working class population… And they’re being squeezed out of every space, not just here, but everywhere.
Hell yeah, ebikes! As a decarbonization strategy, it’s one of the most sound, but we need to have safe, separate bike lanes and infrastructure that isn’t shared with cars because car drivers are frankly not interested in sharing the road. Transportation is most often the leading cause of GHGs - that or emissions from buildings (they seem to be at parity). So if we can kick the car lobby out of state decision making for city planning and transportation, we can actually have a chance at safer, equitable single occupant transport options for all income levels, and reduce our climate impact at the same time. Who’s with me?!

I’m in a between place emotionally. Animal family member passed away recently. We knew it was coming but some irrational part of me thought he would be around forever, but he was in a lot of pain from some cancerous tumors that kept popping up, and he was not walking or moving well, incontinence, etc. I’m grateful he’s not in pain, but he was so damn loved and will always be a legendary pupper.
Landlord is selling our place as well and I’m super not into being under the thumb of another landlord, so I’m doing the scary thing - looking for houses.
Then there’s HR 9495 in the US Congress… This proposed bill in Congress could destroy so many sectors that rely on non-profits to protect the community, and not only is this a Pandora’s Box of fuckery, but there are untold ramifications. If you feel like telling your Democratic reps you do not support this bill, all the help is appreciated.
Finally, on a lighter note, I love and appreciate this community! I read everyone’s comments on these posts and appreciate posts like this. It’s a scary time ahead for many in our country and the world, but there are so many glimmers of hope that come from just having this platform for human discussions. Thank you for this, and sending love and kindness to everyone in their unique struggles. Know that you are cared for, and there are still far more good and genuine people in the world than bad.
