I’ve had some disagreements with admins of my instance and mods of some communities here and I’m yet to be banned. So, it’s alright I suppose. Although I must say that I’m on the same general side of the political spectrum as the admins.

Thinking that the current Russian government is communist/socialist is peak brain rot. It is a nepotist police state with conservative/neoconservative social policy (religion, nationalism, anti-LGBT) and a neoliberal economic policy (capitalism). It’s almost an exact opposite of the ideas behind the hammer and sickle.

Don’t get “rest of world” mixed in there; I mean sure, all governments suck in one way or another, but most of them at least aren’t imperialist.

Hm, I haven’t thought about a Fandom replacement (a bunch of wikis covering mostly unrelated, niche subjects); for something like this, federation would indeed be nice as just a way to have a single user account, search, etc. I still stand by my opinion that a general-purpose encyclopedia should have a single article per subject, and thus not really suitable for federation.

What is the point in federating a wiki this way? The point of an encyclopedia is to have structured and consistent information about everything in one place. This seems to propose a model where rules, formatting, notability/verifiability criteria, quality etc can only be consistent within a single server. Information is spread over multiple servers, creating a rife potential for duplicate articles, difficulties with search, and fracturing of the community (I can easily imagine a dozen articles about every even slightly politically contentious subject).

In other words, to me the point of federation is to allow multiple sets of rules (e.g. moderation rules) to exist within a single space, which seems to be contrary to the basic idea of an encyclopedia. IMHO the better implementation of an encyclopedia is a robust set of rules ensuring that every (notable) viewpoint is represented, and social norms that ensure everyone follows them regardless of their personal biases. Wikipedia is kind of like this, although I understand the frustration due to it often being biased towards a liberal viewpoint (but even then, a wide range of viewpoints is almost always represented).

If you’re a power-user looking at this, you can also look at https://github.com/rgwood/systemctl-tui which is somewhat similar but seems to be more useful (for now), also showing the service logs and being easily navigable with a keyboard.

TBH I think it goes back way further than that: US expansion started of as part of the British expansion, who were probably inspired by Romans. I’m sure there are examples further back in history as well. It’s a pretty easy general idea to come up with if you are unburdened by ethics, empathy or humanity and your only motivation is greed and/or religious zealotry. But yes, parallels with Lebensraum specifically are especially potent.

Looks like their long-term strategy for peace is to deport, imprison or exterminate the (uncivilized, jihadist, subhuman) locals and re-settle with (civilized, devoted, master-race) Israelis. Now, where have I heard this idea before…

Phone? Nah. It’s only a tool, used for photography, maps/navigation, messaging while on the go, shopping lists and phone calls for that one time a month you need to make one. Maybe other stuff sometimes, like making a bank transfer when not at home or editing OSM.

I used to be indirectly addicted to it. It was actually doomscrolling Reddit, but now that I’m off it I don’t get the urge anymore.

My desktop is a different story, I’m kind of addicted to it while I’m at home; when outside I don’t really miss it.

You’ll definitely want to change the commonEntryKeys = { "locationSet": {"include": ["ge"]} } to your country, and maybe some other things too.

Back when I was in Russia I’d say it’d be Suzdal, famous for the density of churches and other traditional architecture; or Tarusa, known for that one song that everyone seems to know a couple of lines from, Gorodok (here is a random rendition I found just now), both with just under 10k pop according to the wiki. And, as a bit of a stretch since it’s not a town and most people would call it Solovki, Solovetsky settlement, famous for being a prison, with about 800 people. Also Oymyakon with under 600 people, the coldest settlement on earth if you’re into that sort of thing.

Now in Georgia, I’d say Borjomi with just over 10k pop famous for its water, and Bakuriani (just over 1800 people) for its water and the ski resort. Again a bit of a stretch, but I guess everyone in Georgia at least also knows the ski resort of Gudauri at just under 100 people, as well as mountain resorts of Gomismta and Bakhmaro, both with no permanent residents due to the rough winters. Geography nerds will also be familiar with Ushguli, (arguably) the highest inhabited settlement in Europe, population 220.

So, here’s my attempt

The first portion (^.?$) matches all lines of 0 or 1 characters.

The second portion (^(..+?)\1+$) is more complicated:

1. (..+?) is a capture group that matches the first character in any line, followed by a smallest possible non-zero number of characters such that (2) still matches (note that the minimum length of this match is 2)
2. \1+ matches as many as possible (and more than 0) repeats of the (1) group

I think what this does is match any line consisting of a single character with the length

• divisible by some number (due to the more than 0 condition in (2), so that there have to be repeats in the string), that’s not
  • 1 (due to the note in (1), so that the repeating portion has to be at least 2 characters long), or
  • the length itself (due to the more than 0 condition in the (2), so that there is at least one repetition)

Therefore, combined with the first portion, it matches all lines of the same character whose lengths are composite (non-prime) numbers? (it will also match any line of length 1, and all lines consisting of the same string repeated more than one time)

I’ve been using nheko as my Matrix client and main Telegram client via mautrix-telegram for the past 4 years. I fixed a couple of annoying bugs myself, and it has been working great for me since. Shame your experience isn’t the same, maybe you can report the bugs to the devs (who are amazingly responsive).

There are a couple of non-electron matrix clients I enjoy: gomuks (TUI, therefore really light-weight), and nheko (Qt-based native app that’s about as snappy as telegram, but with less animations and crap).

Yep, that has actually been a dream of mine for a while, I went as far as downloading the source code and setting up the build environment, but then got a bit overwhelmed by the task. It would be amazing to have this.

“NixOS project” did not call anyone nazis, there was no “purge”, this article is clickbait and ragebait. What one contributor, however prolific, says, doesn’t represent the entire project (even though I somewhat agree with him here - there are sadly some bigots in the community).

Nobody forced Eelco (the founder of Nix) to “abdicate”, but there was indeed pressure to step down as the de-facto BDFL put on him by various people. He’s respected as an engineer, architect, maintainer and mentor, but his community management skills were perceived to be lacking, and there were other perceived issues in the community - which boiled down to the fact that a lot of contributors didn’t feel like they could influence the direction of the project. Note that he’s not expelled from the project in any way, he’s still a maintainer of Nix itself, which AFAIU from my interactions with him is what interests him the most, and he’s more or less happy to leave administrative/community stuff to other people.

Then began a process to establish a new governance structure. Currently, we’re up to a stage where there’s now formal community values and a new constitution for the project. There’s an election happening right now, with all active contributors able to become candidates or vote (although the deadline for candidate nominations has passed, so now we can only vote).

Yep, happy that more and more people recognize it for a treasure of features and customization that it is. For me, it’s the best app for trekking, hiking, and offroading there is, even if we consider proprietary stuff like Fatmap and such.
