Twitter normalized of extremely simplistic expression of complicated issues which leads to all kinds of kneejerk reactions. Some men misinterpret whatever complaint as being about them and turn defensive, and of course the most aggressive of those voices are amplified by social media. The inflammatory comments beget more inflammatory comments, reasonable people quickly exit the space and this is what you end up with.

I firmly believe it’s social media that’s to blame.

  • I was going to immediately mention Hollow Knight but I see someone already did. Second thought: Tunic. It’s been a long time since a game hit me as hard as those two.

For pure fun addictive gaming: Factorio is absolutely nuts. 2D survival craft platforming action: Terraria is still king.

For space empire building check out X4: Foundations, after almost 10 years under development it’s absolutely amazing (but a huge timesink haha)

Oh and if you’re into semi-hard-scifi basebuilding you could give Stationeers a look. Sunk quite some hours into that one.

  • Not really all that strange. I’m not up on how this particular vote went but if 39% is in favor only 23% needs to abstain for the ‘against’ vote to be in the minority. Also counting by percentage of the total population is misleading and kind of dumb, we’re never going to have individual referenda for this type of decision making and thank god for that. That’s how we got Brexit.

Aside this form of Musk style “interesting 🤔” rhetoric really raises my hackles.

  • Shutup still works but I wouldn’t trust it to prevent all telemetry. I wouldn’t trust Microsoft not to have other telemetry that’s not part of their services that can be turned off.

Just my 2 cents: I dual boot Windows and Linux. I only start up Windows when I want to play a game, use Linux Mint for everything else. Some games run perfectly fine under Linux (I play a lot of Factorio for example. No Mans Sky I’ve had no issues etc.) but some are just a pain. For those I switch to Windows and then immediately switch back when I’m done playing.

It’s not ideal but this way Windows has next to no information about me at least. And as times goes on I’m seeing more and more games running just fine under Linux. Maybe one day I’ll be able to drop Windows completely.
