My favorite Zelda. So many memories wandering this island.
Yes of course,
I replied to this post because it is one of many making bold claims about healthcare in other countries than the US, most of the times claims about European countries healthcare made by US users are false and/or misleading.
Sure the US has a very bad system, I see it and recognize how bad it is, but it’s a tad annoying to see stuff like that, that falsely say we have “0” bankruptcy or that “everything” is covered by public healthcare, that our life expectancy is that much higher, etc… Most claims are unsourced and blatantly false or largely inflated for shock value.
In France for example we have many issues with our public healthcare, not everything is covered (dental isn’t for example), we aren’t covered for the full amount unless we pay for private coverage on top (called “mutuelle”) which often are linked to your employer, we have to pay up front and then get reimbursed later, geographically there are areas with very few hospitals, the poorer often can’t afford to be sick because we aren’t always automatically paid for sick days at work, there’s a shortage of medical fields’ workers, and our current political leaders have been making it worse for decades…
All that to say that from the perspective of a “European” citizen, these posts about the US system compared with ours feels like propaganda that “we should be happy with what we have” even though we really shouldn’t, using false information.
I don’t know about the other countries, but In France there definitely still are problems, check this recent story https://www.lanouvellerepublique.fr/a-la-une/on-lui-refuse-l-acces-aux-urgences-elle-accouche-sur-le-parking-de-l-hopital
A pregnant women was refused entrance to a private hospital she was forced to give birth on the parking lot in front of the entrance.
Sure the USA have an awful system but it doesn’t mean it’s perfect everywhere else. There are people that are bankrupt because of medical treatment here too. And we also have corrupt CEOs making it worse
Every country needs a Luigi.
There is a difference between productivity and activity, you can be 100% active at work all day, yet 0% productive. Imagine you work on a project for 6 months and then the manager decide to drop the project. You have been unproductive for 6 months, doesn’t mean you were slacking off, but in the end when we calculate the productivity of developers, it is lower because of this.
Curiosity, so I observe. I believe we have control over nothing and that free will is an illusion. Consciousness is a mystery, as much my own as the one I suppose others have. In the middle of the chaos, I sometimes see glimpses of beauty, in many forms: music, images, people’s behaviour, fiction, maths, nature… So I observe , I try to find patterns, to understand how things work, why others do what they do. I have found beauty in the very little things, what used to be chores I now enjoy, they were chores because “I thought I had better more important things to do”, I wanted to be “later” but now I know what matters is to live in the moment, and I’ll be living the next moment later.
Social media, the news, they are trying to grab your attention and project you to the future, what is the next threat, when are you likely to die or suffer. The truth is: we are all going to be dead eventually, it can be for many reasons, it can be in the next hour, or in thousands of years, we cannot know when, but we all know it will happen, doesn’t really help to worry too much about it.
Don’t waste your life trying to prevent your inevitable death. Enjoy it while you can. The rest is mostly out of your control anyway.
I don’t see the issue, if we say 1 billion is too much (I would choose a lower maximum personally) if their wealth in any way or form is above the max, they have to sell a house or some asset, society in the form of the government (or whathever is in place) take the money to be used for public interest project. It’s really not that punishing, they would literally be the richest people, and they would still have plenty of money/asset to enjoy life. They don’t need more.
“rarely”: so you admit sometimes the solution is “get rid of X” ? Then why would “get rid of billionaires” not be a solution for you ? To be clear I’m not saying we should kill them or physically hurt them in any way, we can simply reappropriate their wealth turning them into non-billionaire, also making it illegal for anyone to be a billionaire in the future. Why would that not work in your opinion ?
Linux supports most games nowadays. It will never support “all” games. Just like windows doesn’t support all games. At this point in time, saying Linux is not good enough with gaming is weird…
This really looks like shit.
I got rid of my dual boot arch/windows, and installed single boot draugerOS this week end.
Proton for the win. (dows)
I wonder what other people will put in the comments.
I’m sad to read your suffering. I hope we find a cure before.
Totally agree that this is one of the most likely scenario, but I wouldn’t say it is going to happen with 100% confidence. We need to act accordingly, and trying to prevent it, but there is still a slim possibility that we manage to fix it.
Being gay doesn’t mean you can’t raise a child with your partner.
Never say nothing will ever convince you (I don’t want any child either by the way), let my try:
Imagine the following hypothetical, in a few decades, medical science solves ageing, fast forward a few hundred years in the future, you still have no child, you meet an amazing person about as old as you, also never had any child, you fall madly in love with each other, you live a few amazing decades together, and they start to say they’d like to try the experience of raising a child, It will only takes two or three decades before they are independent, a very small time relative to the infinite life ahead of you. Do you think you would say no with 100% confidence?
I don’t want any child and I don’t think I will ever want one, but I know my opinion might change one day for reasons beyond my current understanding.
I love that every comment focus on the math puzzle. Since the other stuff is clearly uninteresting.
For a second I thought I saw my name and was confused what this had to do with me :-D
