There is this seeming need to discredit AI from some people that goes overboard. Some friends and family who have never really used LLMs outside of Google search feel compelled to tell me how bad it is.

But generative AIs are really good at tasks I wouldn’t have imagined a computer doing just a few year ago. Even if they plateaued in place where they are right now it would lead to major shakeups in humanity’s current workflow. It’s not just hype.

The part that is over hyped is companies trying to jump the gun and wholesale replace workers with unproven AI substitutes. And of course the companies who try to shove AI where it doesn’t really fit, like AI enabled fridges and toasters.

Everyone has that drawer. You can tidy it with spacers to make it look a bit less hectic but it will still be that drawer full of random specialty shit.

Ah the Euphemism Treadmill. Live long enough and words we use today for intellectual disability will become inappropriate too.

I haven’t seen anyone encouraging or even so much as hinting that a copycat should target police or courts. Feels like something made up to try to drive a wedge between the bipartisan support by splintering off “back the blue” type of people.

It should be lower. This incident really put a spotlight on their claims denial rate being the highest in the industry, twice as high as industry average. A lot of customers will probably be leaving but that hit won’t happen until later when the next billing cycle comes.

Check again…it was a publicity stunt.

It seems that it’s most likely an out-of-touch marketing stunt. The company, Yes Madam, is apparently launching some sort of corporate wellness program type thing so they are likely going to pivot this publicity into “Treating employees like that would be awful right?! But companies do have stressed employees and should take care of them with…blah”.

I hope it fully backfires and they go out of business.

EDIT: It just hit me that they are going to say “We didn’t have a single employee who indicated stress on the survey, because we take care of our employees.”

All of this is just a distraction anyway. It’s rich vs poor always has been. We have a huge group of people that should really be allies but are brainwashed against their own interests. It’s easy to say they’re on the wrong side but we should really be looking to mend the divide in ways that we can rather than further it by stating how morally superior we are.

Years ago I got my parents to switch from internet explorer to firefox by putting IE’s icon over firefox…this has the same vibes. If you have someone technologically illiterate in your life who pretty much only uses the browser…yeah this idea could work.

Hear me out, maybe we should update pots and sms to have optional end-to-end encryption for modern implementations as well…Optional as backwards compatible and clearly shown as unencrypted when used that way to be clear.

I have a backlog of great games to play so long that I’m seeing remasters of some games on the list come out before I’ve played them a first time. I have no problem waiting for games to come to a different platform and go on sale.

Hunter individually didn’t really deserve a pardon for tax offenses but I can understand it. Hopefully since we’re going full fuck it mode with presidential powers Biden can do something much more deserving of the powers like removing marijuana as a controlled substance and pardoning non-violent marijuana felons.

Government really should be building housing themselves though and working on the zoning laws to make building easier. Even in a free market the government should be a competitor driving prices down to fair levels.

Measures like rent control don’t work because landlords are greedy. People end up staying in locations that don’t fit them anymore for the rent control, landlords try to chase those tenants away and don’t improve the property, new housing stops being developed and supply/demand get wrecked.

Measures like stimulus and tax rebates for first time buyers tends to increase the cost of real estate as well. It’s called a demand subsidy and generally isn’t a great way to tackle a supply problem. The individual home buyers will be helped at the expense of tax payer money and real estate cost - and the types of homes being bought aren’t necessarily the best use of land either depending.

Restricting companies from bulk purchasing and holding real estate seems like a good idea but again when you remove that new housing, especially multi-tenant housing, stops being built. Supply goes down prices shoot up…unless of course the government is willing to personally finance and build out the supply and keep prices fair.
