This is assuming he had clean forks. Which I’m going to go out on a limb here, and guess that his issue is having clean dishes or utensils at all, irrespective of what kind they are.

Once while camping I used a tent peg to eat meat from a can.
The amount of times I’d forget some utensils to eat while on site and have to use nails, screws, wire or whatever else on the jobsite. Made me keep a small box in the glove box of my vehicle, was the savior for other guys too.

Not sure about weight loss, but it cetrainly is a time loss.
I mean there are probably less efficient tools for the job.
