I like many among you loved sync and am frustrated with the bugs and lack of updates. It seems LJ has all but abandoned the app, so I did some looking around on the business of sync apps Ltd and can see from public records in the UK that he is keeping the business up to date. So it seems he is fine with collecting passive income from ad revenue.
@ljdawson@lemmy.world please just open source this app so the community can fix these bugs.
I myself have moved to thunder, very similar UX, lots of customization, and it’s open source.
I moved to summit and really like it as a sync replacement. The developer is super responsive and consistently updates the app
Used to swear by Sync but moved to Thunder too. Can’t really justify spending money on Sync imo
I’m enjoying Summit as my Sync replacement.
I am also on summit. Only thing I hate is that I set one tap to open content but there is no one tap for videos so they always open inline with half the video off screen then I hit back to exit and it refreshes my view losing my place. Ill get there once I beat this muscle memory.
Thunder, eh? First o heard of it! Thanks
This may be being done by an accountant or other rep.
Yes but he’d be paying and instructing them to do so.
Looking at the Thunder app and it does look similar as far as phone screen is concerned. But does it have the multi column view on a larger screen like Sync? That is basically the one major thing I haven’t found in other apps I have tried, both for reddit and Lemmy and is nice for subs that are more image based. I still use a patched version for moments where reddit is still needed (not very often these days but much nicer than the site).
Wait what? Mine just renewed!

Right he’s still taking in funds just not patching the app. That’s the point of this post, the business is still active despite development being halted.
Man. I work in IT and I’ve officially reached the point that keeping up with any 1 single thing just enough to not get effed up by something is an impossibility.
Folks you don’t have to use or pay for the app. If you don’t like it: cancel and move on with your lives.
I’ve been getting more and more disappointed and this post is really good timing. I’m going to switch to summit based on some helpful comments here.
I hesitated for a long time before financially supporting a truly amazing app, though way overpriced. I’m broke, so I don’t regret a thing. In fact, I’m happy to block his ads with a custom DNS to cut off funding to this greedy bastard. The least he could do is give paying users an update on what’s actually happening with their money.
I don’t use the app, but why doesn’t someone send some mail to the physical address?
