Adjacent. Matrix uses a lot more resources & storage than XMPP, making XMPP a more efficient method of decentralized, self-hostable communication (both servers and clients). Having control of your own chat server will prove important with facism on the rise, so owning your own server node + E2EE will prove important—but if the system is too expensive that everyone cannot afford to run it, it isn’t radical tech.
Like how the GOP crumbled after two Obama losses to put in a ‘populist’ in Trump, the DNC should fold over, kick out the donors, fire everyone & let the populist movement Bernie really kicked off take over, & let Bernie lead it while he has the vigor to do the leading but not run for presidency. Neocons on both sides should be exiled (lol at taking the Cheney endorsement). A wave of young voters & workers would love to see such a populist overthrow of the establishment (even if they don’t yet understand that what they really want is to overthrow capitalism).
Instead the DNC will adopt the Haskell programming language motto: avoid success at all costs.

I am still convinced Git is overrated & overly complicated—and it is a shame all of the decent forges (even basic ones) are all built around Git.
Gemini has accessibility & bandwidth problem. HTML is a more accessible format & HTTP offers compression. Add that Gemtext has too few ‘elements’ for technical writing or even basic blogging & I don’t think it should be seriously considered for anything than a novel toy.

Sounds like you need a browser tho. UnifiedPush & MQTT work without a browser with WebPush support.
I still want to know if MQTT already did this & UnifiedPush is just a startup trying to reimplement the same concept
Haskell devs like to write code, not maintain it. A bunch of libraries get written, but get abandoned shortly after for something new & shiny.

Meanwhile folks I work with Linux is basically seen as a must (if not specifically NixOS). You are on your own if you want to use OSs that don’t work well with Nix since there is too much value in immutable builds to warrant supporting your proprietary setup. Most ended up switching to or getting a second laptop for Linux.
I use the note to self capability of my XMPP server to send a message to myself for these sort of one-offs. I would never want my data in the hands of some proprietary service if I have the option—sharing data just to yourself on these services also means it is Big Tech’s data now too. All of the XMPP clients are super lightweight.
Bigger cases, I will use scp, rsync, or magic wormhole. Or just using removeable storage.
I have one from Morefine. It works, but I hate the way these Chinese sellers put firmware on Google Drive as it feels super sketchy & lacks the source code (luckily this one doesn’t require exclusively Microsoft Windows executables unlike some other products I own).
