You are going to need to provide a significant more amount of information. Like guide are you using, which specific step isn’t working, what error messages are you getting.

What I have seen people do in the past is use ansible secrets to secure the env file.
So only when the playbook is running does the env get decrypted.

I assume you have root login denied in your ssh config, other things would be having fail2ban and some geofencing (blocking IPs from countries you know you are never going to log in from).
I would make a new volume on the nas for testing purposes. Give it enough space to hold some data but no where near enough for your production data.

Nothing is stopping me from making a certificate from my offline CA for your domain.
Even if you don’t trust the certificate the traffic is still encrypted.
A public CA (Let’s Encrypt, Komodo, GoDaddy, etc) don’t actually sign certificates with their root CA certificate. The root CA creates a subCA (Or signing CA) that actually generates the certificates and the system holding the private keys of the root certificate is shutdown to prevent access but is brought back online every so often to update the revocation list.
You said a private CA is more secure so I am wondering how that is?

So the dude rocks up, clearly stoned, tried to rap battle someone in the group and looses, proceeds to hit on every woman in the group including the very clearly pregnant women, and insulting every guy. He left within 2 hours.
Now, why was he this way? Because he had a YouTube channel with 1K subscribers and was featured in the national newspaper a year ago for… and I kid you not… making music with the cardboard tube part of a toilet paper.
