I don’t think so. I mean cops can be jerks but they’re really not dumb enough to just risk their jobs for $40 USD out of someone’s wallet. Let alone build a culture out of this.

Civil forfeiture of greater than $1000 USD where that stuff gets documented and people have the prove the “innocence” of that money on the other had is another issue.

Cops stopping people for cash just feels like a childish characterization. There are enough real problems with police to address (ie systematic racism and nepotism) no need to work with characterizations.

  • Fair. But that’s not really earth scale thinking in my book. It’s more our best understanding based on what we know.

I know of these theoretical work arounds. They’re more mathematical models that say if such a thing as negative mass exists, then we might be able to go faster than the speed of light. Issue is that the model does nothing to show that negative mass exists.

That and everything we know shows that it does not exist. If it did I would be incredibly happy. It’s just wishful hoping at this point though. We don’t even have a model or theory that shows how negative mass could exist. We only have theories that show what could happen if it did exist.

It’s like saying hm we know how F=m*a works. What could happen if we set m to a negative number? Yah in the math we can but that does not mean we can in reality.

  • A drop in the bucket isn’t event close to a good understanding of how big space is. A satellite in the ocean is grossly misleading when it comes to the scope of space.

Maybe a single O2 molecule in the ocean might be closer but even then that’s not even close to the scope of space.

Space is big. So big that the light cone of our “pollution” can’t physically interact with most of it even if we did our best to “pollute” as much as we can and some alien species did their best to find that “pollution”. Space is so big that physics dictate the impossibility of our “pollution” interacting with most of space.

Fun fact this is why the chance of aliens visiting us here on earth is basically 0.

You can’t use earth scale thinking, that’s how big space is.

This all being said we should do our best to not pollute the earth. We should use earth scale thinking when it comes to earth.

  • While I acknowledge that the MBFC does have some right wing bias, I think it serves its purpose. Aka to flag literal propaganda “news” sites.

The titles are literally accurate in the image. Israel is (unethically) launching preemptive strikes.

If you look at the .ml news communities that don’t use MBFC you will see that way too many news stories are from literally Russia Today, Southern China Morning Post, and other extremely biased to a very particular agenda publications.

I think people are trying to tie MBFC to being Zionist just so the bot will be dropped and it will be easier for them to normalize things like Russia Today outside of .ml spaces.

  • Although I do see that that bot has a very slight right wing bias I like it. It prevents the normalization of the use of literal propaganda outlets as news sources.

I have a suggestion that might be a good compromise.

The bot only comments on posts that are from less factual news sources or are from extreme ends of the spectrum.

On a post from the AP the bot would just not comment.

On a post from Alex Jones or RT the bot would post a warning.

That way there is less “spam”, but people are made aware when misinformation or propaganda is being pushed.

Also with such a system smaller biasses are less relevant and therefore become less important.
