  • So this is an issue that gets my goat because people react emotionally (which is understandable) but don’t follow on to think about what’s going on that “dumpster babies” are a relatively common phenomenon. If it was one or two people doing this here and there, then I’d accept that it’s a problem with the individuals, but since it happens so frequently, there is a systemic issue at play that needs to take some of the blame.

Yes, there are baby drop boxes, but what might keep someone from using them? (Edit to clarify based on the replies: other than abortion access, which should be available everywhere to everyone who needs it) Are there other resources that could be made available? Are there medical or social pressures creating barriers to utilizing efforts to decrease infanticide? I don’t think there’s one answer but what I do know is that prison is probably not the answer to preventing more of these deaths.

  • I used to live next to an interstate.

These white noise machines are GOLD:

There are several brands, so don’t feel like you need this particular one.

Create any water features you can indoors and/or outside. These create background sound to drown it out.

Thick fabrics on the walls facing the sound can help if you can’t afford to do new windows right now. I believe they also sell window inserts that deafen sound, as I was looking into them at one time.

To your particular issue, since it’s a specific song (maybe?), a repeating catalog of songs, or at least specific frequencies/tones every time, and it’s at specific times, I wonder if you could rig up some sort of noise cancelling device or sound to play at those exact times in your bedroom?

  • Yep. From a systems analyst perspective, if there’s a problem with a couple people, it’s because they’re idiots. If a lot of people are having a problem, it’s a systems issue. In this case, the DNC and their shit messaging.

It’s like they hired an intern to do their marketing. They had a few funny clap backs on socials but they didn’t actually pivot to appeal to their target demographics. Fucking marketing 101.

  • n+1 here, but I’m a bi woman married to a straight man and I’ve started using partner more recently because there’s a lot of baggage in the history of power dynamics associated with the titles of husband and wife.

I also hope it makes people think for a minute if they need to ask me clarifying questions about my marriage status or sexuality/how the person I’m married to identifies.

At the same time, I totally understand the impact of not using generic words when it comes to gay marriage, where there was such a long fight to be recognized as husband and husband. So cheers to you and your husband!
