Tailscale is only for the server/host. You’re not changing all of your VPN services over to this, you’re using it in a ‘reverse’ fashion. You’re VPN-ing the server out to the world so it’s reachable and you have port forwarding options, etc.

From there, it can be reached by any client on the internet as a service. From there though, I don’t know how you’d get to it securely without a domain and SSL (Let’s Encrypt/Caddy) certs.

A domain is only like $16/year. So it’s not prohibitively expensive.

  • lol – You know… I never thought of it like that. All of the people they tried to crush never really went away.

    • Firefox (Netscape Navigator)
    • Linux (Literally everywhere now)
    • Apple (they literally rescued apple!)
    • Sony
    • Google (Search)
    • Slack (Teams)
    • Oracle (Databases)
    • Salesforce

…for each attempt Microsoft has made at crushing someone they deemed a competitor – they sure are bad at it.

    However, others weren’t so lucky:

    • Lotus
    • Novell
    • Palm
    • Nokia (bought them and made them a zombie of their former selves)
    • Blackberry (though, this was more Android than MS)
    • Various web-mail competitors with Hotmail
    • IBM (OS/2 vs Windows)

Though, I’m not so sure that last list was all Microsoft. More of a Microsoft + Market Pressures type of death.

  • Likely they are trying to stave off Microsoft’s crosshairs for a bit. Valve is big, but Microsoft is WAY bigger, and when they decide they want to crush you, crush you they will.

If Valve were to make SteamOS good enough that a significant market share started using it; Microsoft will start doing everything in their power to drown it out as fast as possible.

If you’re under about…35 or so, you are unlikely to remember all of the shadow corporations that came out of the woodwork under Microsoft’s control to sue anyone using Linux into oblivion and to spread lies and fear during the late 90’s and early 2k’s. If you think Google is bad, Microsoft is way worse.

  • The problem is that it’s not good enough to be 99.9% reliable, when it takes 4500 color switches. I wouldn’t trust Anycubic with ANYTHING; I repair machines for a living and they are the WORST when it comes to filament machines, and somehow really great when it comes to resin machines.

The K2 Plus combo hasn’t proven itself yet. And like you said, welcome to 2025: most people don’t DIY their machines any more.

I don’t even own a Bambu (I own a VZ330 and a Voron 2.4 310); but I have hands on familiarity with every machine on the market - I’ve been doing this for 12 years. I’ve set up every multicolor system under the sun, including palette 3 pro and ERCF – and the fact of the matter is: The only one that stays 99.999% reliable is the AMS.

Yes, things are getting way better - for sure. I’m really hoping the K2 Plus “CMS” stands the test of time. I really like that its got a larger option and comes with the 4-way “hub” by default.

But, even with Creality pulling out the stops on that thing – Bambu labs engineers came from DJI drones; they hit the market with fresh eyes, and they still have more protections in place than their competitors. That makes them the easiest to use for people who don’t like to learn stuff, or manage/repair their machines.

When the “Web” bubble burst, were we left without websites? No.

When the AI bubble bursts, it isn’t going away either. It replaces too much labor. Training the AI models is expensive, but running them isn’t. Especially on Lemmy, too many dullards don’t understand why AI is so popular; it’s because it’s replacing your job - or allowing 1 person to do the jobs of 10.

  • T-Mobile, but I’m thinking about switching to T-Mobile.

Honestly though - I have the $30 prepaid T-Mobile plan with unlimited data, 100 phone minutes, and unlimited text. But I’m thinking about switching to Mint Mobile, because it’s just T-Mobile anyways, and I can just pay for the whole year and get the same + unlimited minutes for $15/mo instead.
