  • Lemmino

I’m surprised no one mentioned this channel yet. Previously known for making top 10 facts of everything, but has since transitioned into long form documentary of mysteries. He takes a long time between videos, but its always an instant click whenever he uploads. Does his own research, cites them, makes the background music and all of the animations for it. Honeypot for react channels too.

    Fortnine

Motorcycle related videos. Does some motorcycle reviews, but the explanation type videos they mostly do are awesome. Even if you’re not a motor head, you can always learn/enjoy something from their videos. If not the knowledge and physics, then the excellent videography and story telling Ryan puts in there.

    Technology Connections

The Youtube Appliance guy. I kid, but he does excellent videos delving into tech in general appliances or retro stuff. One of his best videos is about dishwasher detergents, so good he had to make 2 more follow up videos about it. Seriously, go give it a watch.

  • I live in Taiwan, people here wear masks for whatever reason and no one bats an eye. You can wear a mask if you are sick, have too much acne and want to hide it, or because you are a medical worker and need to protect yourself and patients like OP, etc.
It also helps that we all went through the SARS pandemic, which could be seen as the previous version of COVID. Unlike COVID, SARS transmits via respiratory droplets after symptoms like fever arise, so everyone learned to wear masks during that time, and it worked. When COVID came, we knew what to do.

  • I’m ashamed to say I’ve stepped into the Gacha rabbit hole with Zenless Zone Zero. It’s a fun game, combat feels quite good on PC, characters are likable, and the story is intriguing so far. Though I’m not ashamed to say that I haven’t spent anything on this game, and I’m sticking to free to play, as the value you get out of spending in game just isn’t worth it. There are much better ways to spend money than rolling for a chance to get a character. How much the whales are willing to spend for a character will never cease to amaze me.

  • Going wireless will always add a layer of energy loss, in this case heat, during charging, no matter if it is properly aligned with magnets or not. So first step to reducing heat is to charge wired only.

Fast charging is also a way of generating more heat while charging, so limiting the charge speed is also a way to reduce that. If you’re going to charge your phone through the night, it’s probably a good idea to use a 5W brick to manually limit the charge speed. A quick way to enforce that is to use the USB-A port on the brick instead of the C port, that way the PD standard won’t be activated and will charge at a slower rate. (Though if your phone fast charges through USB-A like Quick Charge or SuperVOOC, it will not default to 5W. Use a cheapo brick or a computer USB-A port instead.)

Last would be to limit the charge level to 80%. Batteries are the most stable at half charge and stressed at both extremes, but that’s not practical for anyone to limit their devices between 40~60% charge, so 20~80% is a better compromise. iPhones now have the ability to limit their charge to 80% or 90% in iOS 18, so set that if you can. On Android, you’ll need to see if your phone and OS supports it.

  • Install GCam, few reasons:

    1. The new update that requires you to go into a menu to change exposure and white balance instead of just tapping on the viewfinder to show the two sliders infuriates me to no end.
    2. Custom video bitrate. Not every video I take needs to be full quality, and even then, full quality video on my Pixels so far are not worth it. Couple hundred megabytes just for 1 min of footage that doesn’t even look that good? Nah.
    3. Photosphere >>>>> panorama. I don’t understand why they decided to kill it off entirely.

  • Literally every game by Supergiant. Most recent would be Hades 2, when I finally beat the 3rd boss and start slashing into the fourth area, the music was so hype I was smiling all the way through.
A better pick may be Transistor though. It’s kind of a half action half strategy game, where you kind of pause to plan out and execute your next moves. During that pause phase, the music would turn into a muted version, and main character would hum to it in sync.

Also, Journey and Abzu. They simply are experiences that should not be had without good headphones.

  • What in the world have I woken up into…

As an Asian/Taiwanese, I do not understand why Hexbearians feel the need to point out what’s racist for us.
The picture of Xi the Pooh is clearly a parody and pointed specifically at Xi and the CCP, and not a general racist insult to Asians. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, in East Asia knows that, including the Chinese themselves. We use/refer to it a lot ourselves on our own social media platforms in Taiwan (習維尼, 習: Xi, and Winnie the Pooh: 維尼), and if you mention any of it on Chinese social media Weibo/WeChat, you likely will get banned from the platform.

Kind of reminds me of cultural appropriation gone out of hand, where Westerners feel the need to be angry at other Westerners for wearing Japanese Kimonos or Chinese Quipaos. Like, no one here is offended. We don’t understand why those people feel the need to be angry for us.

Edit: I just saw a Hexbear comment on another thread posting that China doesn’t ban Winnie the Pooh because Disney is able to exist. Well, no shit. It’s in the context of Disney. Put that phrase in any other thread on their platform (preferably political) and see what happens, then can you claim that the CCP doesn’t ban the word Xi the Pooh.
