  • I mean, in response to the last one, the Federation does allow (and sometimes advocates) for the correction of birth defects.

Julian: DNA resequencing for any reason other than repairing serious birth defects is illegal. Any genetically enhanced human being is barred from serving in Starfleet or practising medicine.

Deep Space Nine, “Doctor Bashir, I presume”

Doctor: Yes. It’s a girl. And aside from the deviated spine, she’s healthy.

    Paris: Will she need surgery?

Doctor: Fortunately, we’ve advanced beyond that. Genetic modification is the treatment of choice.

    Voyager, “Lineage”

So I imagine plenty of disabilities do end up being erased, it’s just that being disabled is also socially accepted to a much greater extent than today.

  • Yeah what on earth? It’s not a health monitoring ring alternative, and doesn’t try to be. It’s a watch in ring form.

Smart rings/health monitoring rings are not the norm, I don’t see why any other ring would be automatically compared to them.

It’s not like many people have heard of that brand of ring, so it’s not even the kind of clickbait that would attract people, like mentioning an Apple product would be, or when anything about any EV would have to have Tesla in the title (e.g. “Is this EV a Tesla KILLER???”)

I’m not much of a ring wearer, I don’t even wear my own wedding ring, but this one actually looks pretty neat to me. I hope the battery is as easy to replace as they claim it to be.

  • Heroic Games Launcher has been improving a lot, now having install scripts like Lutris, more platforms available, and a lot less janky than it used to be.

Bottles I don’t have much experience with for games, but it’s a really good program a lot of people use, and if you like Libadwaita apps it’s pretty amazing.

If you only need Lutris as a game launcher (rather than the install scripts, WINE/Proton-GE, and such), Cartridge is a nice little GTK4/Libadwaita launcher too. But it is just that - a launcher, nothing more.

  • “on the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree.”

It takes a bit of mental gymnastics to assert that on the second day of Christmas he did not send two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree.

If I said yesterday I gave my friend a pork pie and today I gave my friend some spaghetti and a pork pie, you would not come to the conclusion that my friend did not receive a second pork pie.

  • For real.

I dislike Copilot with a burning passion, but I can’t deny it’s an amazing name. Because that’s what AI in an OS should be.

A copilot. One that will take over and help me do things, especially tedious things like offline translation, better screen reader functionality for the blind, better speech recognition and synthesis, etc.

Of course that’s not what MS is doing, they’re doing it to shove gimmicks down our throat and to scoop up data en masse.

Windows Intelligence is just… Ugh. Do they not get that Apple Intelligence, while still being a bit of a rubbish name, at least works because it still can be shortened to AI?
