I’ve heard multiple Japanese people tell me how funny it is how much foreigners concern themselves over wearing… Clothes.

I recently read “Blindsight” by Peter Watts which was about how first contact could work with an entirely alien species. It goes deep into both the physical and social sciences involved, and was a fun journey as well.

Yay, marketing. The nutritional value of the cereal is probably next to nothing, but if you ate everything else, you’d get all the nutrients you’d need. 1% of the total is still “a part” of the complete breakfast. Technically not false advertising.

Basically, the more food you see, the less nutritional value in the actual cereal.

AuDHD here. I could be entirely off, but there’s two jokes I can see.

The first is that the punchline is a non-joke, because it’s been removed.

The second is that they’re all just as meaningless, but still repeated. Rich and attractive people always try to convince you not to question those structures because it benefits them. It’s a nothing statement. Of course they would say that. Just like [Deleted], always saying [Removed].

You’ll get excited by the prospect of lining up your errands in town so that you can get 3-4 done at the same time rather than making separate trips.

The difference is being labeled “abnormal” by a person you know vs. by society. As a society, we used to beat children who used their left hand to write until they started acting “normal”.

The thought itself that left-handedness and right-handedness are different is not harmful. However, when you start labeling one as ‘normal’ and the other as a ‘generic abnormality’, you start shifting people’s perspectives and suddenly we get a situation where we call left-handed people “Sinister”. (The word literally means left-handed. We added the evil connotations afterwards because of the prejudice against left-handed people. We also did the same in reverse for “dexterity”.)

You might not see the harm immediately in the small scale, but it’s absolutely intended to be a step towards dehumanizing queer people. As others have said as well, homosexuality is incredibly common in nature. Most giraffe sex is gay sex. It’s just not taught in school because… say it with me… “It’s abnormal.”

It’s really not though. It’s just different, and different doesn’t mean bad.

Your argument has been used countless times in history for a number of “abnormalities” that turn out to just be differences without distinction.

“Listen, I’m a supporter of red-heads, but don’t we basically understand that it’s a genetic abnormality? Maybe ‘illness’ is a bit harsh, but they’re just not common enough in society to be considered normal.”

This is how it’s done. I don’t play the game, but I’m interested if this is how their community is moderated.

BTW, down voting is seen as engagement and prioritized just the same as up voting. Doesn’t matter which button you’re pushing as long as it’s on the platform.

I have concepts of thoughts and prayers

On a road trip, got food poisoning so bad that I couldn’t eat for 5 days, barely kept fluids down and was so weak that walking into an appointment, the doctor told me to go to urgent care.

They gave me an IV, did an ultrasound, and gave me some anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea meds, which barely helped. It still took 3 or 4 days before I started feeling better.

Insurance comes back with a 5K bill. They claimed that even though I had my regular prescriptions go through both before and after the trip, the trip claim itself was denied because it was “during a time when I did not have coverage”.

Took several months and phone calls of pointing out the before/after is approved without questions so there’s no way to claim I wasn’t covered during this one week. Every human I spoke to agreed with me, but it still took months.
