3·1 year agoWe are Americans! Arrogance is our life’s blood, ambition is our food and drink, but most of all, hubris is the air we breathe!

I was just going to throw the quote away, but now it’s getting to me. Why does the idea of Americans as Quintessons work so well? They’re ruled by capricious five-faced nutters, and their five faces are known as “death, wrath, laughter, bitterness, and doubt”. The only thing we haven’t got going for us is superintelligence, but in fairness Quintessons have acted pretty stupid sometimes.

Part of why I love WFH. Tired? Set a timer and play for a little bit then right back to work. Still tired, but at least not completely sad.
Hell these days I’m just excited if my kid lets me sleep all night. Yesterday was up since 3 am.

62·1 year agoLook, just because we’re practically feral doesn’t make this a seppo thing. They were probably just sick from eating American food, and couldn’t see a doctor because hhh okay look, it’s called the fundamental attribution error, betting money says whatever happened there it was highly situational.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it wrong to not have a disabled child solely to avoid forcing the child to suffer their whole life?English
1·1 year agoOkay, asked and answered. I wasn’t asking with intent to sealion here, and in fairness perhaps I should have posed this question to the top comment. There’s a lot of nuance missing from them simply calling disabled people selfish for breeding. I wouldn’t have even bothered probably, but this other fellow was conflating your view with the idea that it’s the same kind of selfishness to have kids at all given the state of the world, which begins to sound deeply nihilistic. In my defense I was at pains to ask in the least accusatory way I could think of, giving them the benefit of the doubt. Thanks for taking the time to make sense on their behalf.
