Sony seems really determined to include as many dust gathering nooks and crannies as possible on these things.
I don’t understand why they would release a PS5 Pro. For the PS4 / Xbox One generation, it was somewhat justified because 4K TV became widely available and desirable shortly after the release of this generation, making the consoles almost obsolete.
This time around, I don’t see the performance of theses consoles as a big problem. Interest has declined because prices of consoles and games are high, and there are not that many exiting games to play on them.
Making a more powerful variant has some disadvantages too, making game development more complex to support all variants. Microsoft has already suffered from this strategy with the Xbox series X/S.l, e.g:with BG3 local multiplayer
Is a pro really necessary? No. Silly Playstation.
Or perhaps sooner depends on how desperate sony gets or how soon outdated ps5 gets
Outdated?
The biggest complaint I see is that not enough games are utilizing any of its features yet.
Yeah but some games like Final Fantasy run at 30 FPS capped and they suck.
They should start moving those games from fixed 30 FPS to a higher FPS. Doesn’t even need to be fixed 60 FPS. If they enable VRR between 30 and 60/120 they will massively improve the experience.
I understand that some TVs can run VRR down to 20 or 30Hz.
That’s not because of the hardware.
It’s because the developers made a horseshit design choice to go over the top on graphics to specifically target 30FPS. Multiply the power by 10 and tell them everyone has that and they’ll do the same thing, diminishing returns be damned.
That said, PlayStation has, and has convinced most developers to use, performance options to choose between graphics and frame rate.
FF16 in quality mode runs at 1440p 30 FPS locked upscaled to 4K. And it decreases resolution sometimes in my experience while playing it.
And in performance mode runs at 1080p targeting 60 FPS. The lower resolution it’s very noticeable.
Both modes can be improved by better hardware. That’s my point.
Now things like “30 FPS locked, sucks” or performance mode targeting 1080p is not enough quality is just my personal opinion. Of course some people enjoy 30 FPS or 1080p on a 4K big TV. I personally try to avoid 30 fps locks OR very low resolution performance modes. Games like GT7 or Warzone that can handle lot of FPS at a high resolution (on the current PS5 hardware) are the ones I don’t complain at all and truly enjoy. And in those 2 games I wouldn’t care about upgrading to better PS hardware.
They’re not going to be meaningfully improved by an APU, which is the whole point of a console.
If you want to use a $2K GPU to play games, do that. But PS5’s power is perfectly fine.
Wait, which FF runs only at 30fps? The last two (16 and rebirth) have performance modes like has become the standard this generation.
I think the point here was if you’re going to give the console a boost you shouldn’t have to choose between better graphics and better performance anymore to make it worthwhile (that’s how I read it anyway).
Both 16 and Rebirth do have a performance mode you can use but if you want the prettier graphics you’re stuck at 30fps.
I mean, I agree that I’d rather have 60fps be the standard with the better graphics.
But that’s the argument that the other person should have made rather than “they are locked at 30 and they suck” since technically that’s not true (on either counts if you enjoyed the games).
Fair enough. And both games are still gorgeous even in performance mode. Rebirth’s biggest problem is the same problem Hollywood currently insists on, media that’s being broken up into multiple parts 😂 I want the end of the story dammit!
Yeah for real.
Just gotta wait another couple years. In the meantime, I guess I’m getting all my FF14 jobs to level 100.
FF16. I’m talking about running quality mode (which still doesn’t guarantee native 4K it does upscaling lot of the time) at higher FPS than 30 with a better PS5 Pro hardware.
Desperate about what? It has a many room for price cut to boost sales. All playstation consoles was release 6 or 7 years after the last, i don’t see why it will be different this time
