A falling cactus struck a hiker in the head while on a Scottsdale trail on Oct. 17, the city’s fire department said. Around 7 a.m., the Scottsdale and Phoenix fire department rescue crews were called to Bell Pass Trail after a falling cactus struck a woman in the head. A fire official said crews arrived and found the hiker two miles from the trailhead in steep terrain.
The Scottsdale Fire Department paramedic e-bike teams also arrived and treated the woman. A fire official said crews used a big wheel and utility terrain vehicle to extract the woman from the trail. She was taken to a local trauma center for further evaluation.
