PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle at a central Phoenix intersection, causing detours for commuters Wednesday morning.

Around 5:30 a.m., officers were called to reports of a crash involving a pedestrian near 27th and Campbell avenues, just west of Interstate 17 and south of Camelback Road. Police found the victim seriously hurt, and they were rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the driver involved stayed at the scene, but it’s unclear if impairment was a factor in the crash.

Arizona’s Family witnessed a minivan pulled over on the side of the street, surrounded by debris. The vehicle’s windshield and headlight was shattered on its drivers side.

The intersection is closed, and there is no estimated time to reopen. Drivers should avoid the area during the morning commute as police continue gathering evidence.
