12·1 year agoI know that’s what drives me crazy too. As opposed to a lot of harmful conservative policies that are clearly motivated by a desire to look out for the interests of the wealthy or pander to xenophobes, the anti-vaxx stuff is just pure contagious madness.

World News@lemmy.world•Accused war criminal status will be hard stigma for Netanyahu to shrug offEnglish
8·1 year agoThere’s a big difference between meeting the criteria for being a war criminal and having an arrest warrant issued by the ICC.

World News@lemmy.world•Accused war criminal status will be hard stigma for Netanyahu to shrug offEnglish
8·1 year agoThe thing that’s tougher to shrug off is that he now has a rotating list of countries where depending on who’s in power he cannot visit without being arrested.

103·1 year agoYeah too bad they didn’t get into it earlier, but it has hit a critical mass of users and attention lately.

14·1 year agoThe reason people post on these sites is to make themselves heard I guess. You just have to ignore or block your way into the level of interaction you’re comfortable with.

13·1 year agoThese parts:
Bluesky can fuck right off as well. I tried it to see if it was any different than Twitter but I had to nope out after 10 minutes.
I’ve never understood the whole Twitter formula anyways. Scroll through endless ramblings of people I don’t care about? No thanks.
There are far better places to stay informed about certain topics or get in touch with people you know.

142·1 year agoTo be fair Musk buying twitter and turning it into a Nazi propaganda site was kind of flukey.

74·1 year agoNot every social media format is for everyone, no need to be hostile about it. I just can’t bring myself to engage with TikTok and Reels and such, but other people really like them and why would that be a problem for me?

News@lemmy.world•Bluesky feels more like old Twitter than X doesEnglish
31·1 year agoThe platform is the users but it’s also the owners. Twitter got a lot worse when Musk took over and started turning it into a Nazi propaganda platform even though the userbase didn’t immediately change.

71·1 year agoI’d be happy enough if it just ended up replicating pre-Musk twitter - that was a cool website! And in practice as you say with the federated decentralized aspect and a core userbase of anti-fascists it will likely be even better.

Technology@lemmy.world•Bluesky Might End Up Defeating Twitter Once and for AllEnglish
4·1 year agoBluesky grew out of a project at twitter whose goal was to create a federated protocol. Then when they were split off from twitter when Musk took over they had to start their own twitter-style platform to be the first player in that federated protocol. Now that that part is running they’re gradually building out the originally planned system of allowing more servers to be part of the federation: https://docs.bsky.app/docs/advanced-guides/federation-architecture

Technology@lemmy.world•Bluesky Might End Up Defeating Twitter Once and for AllEnglish
3·1 year agoThat would be great - much better than the current situation where twitter is run like a right-wing site but still has people from across the political spectrum hanging out there due to inertia.

Technology@lemmy.world•Bluesky Might End Up Defeating Twitter Once and for AllEnglish
21·1 year agoThat’s where the federated angle comes in. Not quite there yet, but as the network grows the vulnerability to the original node getting taken over by a bad actor lessens.

I just read this semi-autobiographical Jo Walton novel called Among Others that was written as a love letter to finding books through other books - you get the title of every book the sci-fi obsessed main character reads over the course of like 1979-1980.
