  • The way many Asian countries view relationships between parents, offspring, and social status is very, very different than what we’re used to in the West, and while it’s all just more social constructs and norms being maintained like we know here, the similarities end there.

It would take a long to really explain, and several dozen people would chime in to say how their own family and upbringing was different, so it’s not really something you can “teach” but it’s worth pointing out that our normal lense in which we view family is not going to make sense looking at some families in other areas.

  • Why are WE the ones afraid of consequences? Why should the so-called “mightiest nation on Earth” be the one that cowers whenever someone makes nuclear threats? Didn’t we used to lead the world in creating fear of our military and our nuclear weapons?

I don’t get how the right in particular treats the USA like a mighty jugger- nah I can’t even frame my rhetorical thought, we all know that Russia is deeply involved in shaping the opinions and attitudes of our country’s dumbest fuckwads.

  • Saying this too shall pass is some privileged bullshit.

Or maybe people trying to give each other comfort and hope.

You’re still responsible for taking whatever measures you feel necessary but lets not attack people trying to help.

You’re not entitled to harm people on your side, we’ve done that for the last decade and all it’s gotten us is a fractured ideology with a hundred different camps of people bitching about minor differences in what progressive things are good or not, and allowed a monster to get elected because nobody cares about trying to make leftists happy anymore. Lash out at someone else who actually deserves it.

Fucking hell, this is why we’ll never have nice things. Our side is just as emotional but not quite dumb enough to unify and focus on one target.

  • Everyone shares some level of accountability, and I know nobody wants to hear it and will stomp and huff and gnash their teeth at the notion, but it’s true. Some carry a much larger chunk of that responsibility than others, from of course the people who didn’t care and didn’t vote, and the people who cared and still didn’t vote, to just the people who rolled their eyes every time someone posted a “political” picture in /r/funny and had to start a 300+ comment deep thread about how stupid politics is, down to the small pieces held by everyone who did everything right but never valued their community, didn’t make a stand against people saying and doing things we didn’t agree with, and lets not forget everyone who never involved themselves in their local elections even enough to vote for the people who represent them, they allowed many to go unchallenged and those people went on to prop up a government run by and representing a minority ideology.

    This.

We have an absolutely wrecked educational system that nobody can think anymore. People have either working lives that occupy them 99% of the time and they can’t make informed decisions, or are suffering from 10-second attention-spans and can’t focus on any political messages past “I am the greatest, vote for me” and the fact that is the literal message that won an election, should terrify us all.

If we have a really big challenge, like a novel new virus or disease, in our current state with our current leaders, millions would di- oh, wait, what? I’m being told this already happened.

Well, if something else really bad happens then we’ll have similar or worse causalities.

Kids? Try being a manager trying to hire for entry level data work.

I got maybe one out of five people who even knew how to do basic things like opening windows explorer and navigating through folders. And from that slim margin, finding someone who actually knows how to use software like excel or outlook or word, it makes me want to reword the listing to say that we need people with 5 five years experience. For entry level.

I have become that which we hate. I am demanding experience for entry level work, simply because the entry-level work pool has zero knowledge how things work. You have spent all your time browsing and none of your time challenging yourselves to install software yourself, to copy and move files, or tried even opening your “settings” panel to adjust things. When I started working a lifetime ago, I took some free lessons in learning how to navigate excel and other popular programs. Using that TINY bit of training, I went on to make formulas and automated several of the systems at my first job. I went from counting screws in the warehouse to an eventual VP position.

You can get much, much further ahead of the curve if you actually try to learn a little more about the things you use every day, and you will grow your opportunities more than you can imagine.

  • We can’t even get people to go outside and meet live humans for sex anymore, everyone has switched to online apps for dating. People order food and groceries because we learned from Covid we don’t need to actually interact with other people.

Does anyone actually expect us to mobilize and topple powerful financial institutions? We have the most comfortable society on Earth in the US. Despite how miserable everyone is, nobody wants to leave their soft chairs and giant computer monitors and immersive video games and discord chat channels where you can mute and block anyone you don’t like. The only thing that could possibly change our course at this point would be some transhumanist/singularity nonsense like artificial general intelligence being developed and wrecking the economy.

But that’s tech being developed and controlled by the wealthy elite, so my hopes faded long ago.

The difference is, I support people to have any kind of sexuality or gender or life or love that they want, I actively want them to have those rights.

But I don’t hang those flags all over my car, my yard, my clothes, my pets, etc. Maybe a few people do here and there, but I don’t feel so threatened in my values that I need to constantly reaffirm it and display it to the world. Most people feel this way, even though the majority of Americans support these rights.

This is why you see far, far more Trump propaganda than ANY kinds of special awareness flags. Which are totally different anyway. One supports an idea. One worships a man who wants to police ideas.

  • Those semi-con swing voters are deciding this election though. Nobody else is “on the fence” right now.

Jesus christ, we saw two assassination attempts on Trump and it didn’t change polls. While polls are trash and not to be trusted, they still would have changed if there was some large amount of moderate undecided voters.

And lets not forget H. Clinton won the popular vote by millions of votes. Yes, the Dems are addicting to losing and make the worst decisions in order to appeal to the most useless people, but they’re also playing against a stacked deck here.
