3·1 year agoI think the main difficulty is getting companies like Gmail to recognize your domain as legitimate, as they don’t by default
I know a lot of people are fine with a paid plan, I’ve just seen what has happened to some projects like Fusion 360 where they slowly take away more and more features from the free version, slowly decrease support, and all new features go to the pro version. I would be surprised if this happens to ubuntu, but I don’t want to take that chance.
You’re acting like there isn’t another option. I could just go use Arch with KDE Plasma or something instead, or maybe Fedora which is at least somewhat separated from the ‘pro version’ (red hat)
Out of all of the projects that I can think of in recent memory that started as big open source useful things, only VLC Media Player managed to avoid turning into garbage, and it’s because the lead developer is a saint.
the Linux Kernel, Blender, Godot, Lemmy are some examples that come to mind, or maybe I’m just not understanding what you’re trying to say here
I’m never going to feel fully satisfied using an OS that has an official ‘pro’ version.
Income inequality is also much higher than it was in 1971, it’s about where it was at the start of the Great Depression
CPUs are 100% efficient if they’re also replacing your electric space heater

21·1 year agoThis is the second time this has happened. Democrats in the 50s-60s realized they could get votes in the North by not being racist, while Republicans at the same time realized they could get votes in the South by being racist. It just really shows that neither side really cares all that much, it’s mostly a show for political gain.

Other than that, I check in on how local image models are doing around once every couple of months. I would say you can achieve some cool stuff with it, but not really any unusual stuff.

51·2 years agogpt-2 could do a better job lol
ok, maybe the gpt-2 one is a bit incoherent, it was from five years ago though
The following is a closing speech in a debate against Kamala Harris by the Republican Donald Trump. "She said she’s going to do lots of wonderful things. Why hasn’t she done it yet? They’ve had 3 1/2 years to fix the border and create jobs. So they do it all the time and when you get down there and you get on the roads and people go, “Well, if you do it in Arizona, it’s not a ____ deal,” it’s no deal," they do it because I really don‴t know if they‴re any better than they are now. I don‴t know what kind of country that would be. So the point is when you say she is going to do it, it has been almost 3 1/2 years, we have lost a job and we have to do it. ____, they have all the money and the wall and they have to pay for it by cutting out millions of jobs. And what happened to us was the problem. These are the people who came over from South America and come here, and we didn’t have the money or the will to do it. Now we are doing this all the time. We don‴t have the economic opportunity to make more money with less taxes. What I mean by that is we have to fix the problem. ____, they haven‴t been doing it. ____, they have spent a lot of money on their projects and they don‴t have the financial means ____ to do that. So it is just a failure on a national level. We got the money, we will go ahead and do it if there are opportunities. But we did not do it because of ____. I mean, we have not got any jobs, no jobs in the United States, no jobs in the world.
Honestly I could imagine Trump saying this

0·2 years agoI thought it was funny how Trump was just nodding along while Harris was saying that people often leave his rallies due to boredom. Also, him basically outright saying that immigration has never happened in the history of the country, along with the other nonsensical things he’s said.

you could tell from watching the trailer that its probably going to be a ton of cringey stuff mostly aimed at 8 year olds

4·2 years agoI actually had a problem where on Chrome, I would be signed out of my google account every time I restart my computer, while on Firefox, everything works normally. I use Firefox now lol.
Chromebooks are insanely locked down at schools. I got one on eBay for $40, installed linux, and now it can play Minecraft Java at 60 fps so that’s something.
As someone who has tried out a lot of open source image AIs, I would say that ‘original art’ is something it can’t do. It can make a lot of stuff, but if you deviate too far from the topics it knows it just stops giving you what you asked for. In addition to this, most of the originality the generations do have comes only from the prompt.
