Pretty sure the sync app was abandoned by the creator. Hasn’t been update in months and have seen other posts by users complaining that they receive no reply when reaching out to them.

Source: recently switched to Thunder app after experiencing too many bugs using sync and found no information for future updates or patches.

Super duper duper not a religious person but one of my favorite pieces of literature is the serenity prayer. You cut out the last like 6 lines and it doesn’t even mention shit about God but the rest perfectly outlines my approach to politics, everyday idiots, and not kicking little kids in the chest when they act like shitbags. If all you are looking to do is free up ssd space, just add another ssd or hdd. It will save you money by not having to pay a cloud subscription fee depending on how much you are trying to store. A decent ssd for speed and storage will cost you prolly $150-$250. For a cloud service you’ll prolly be looking at $50/year per 1tb of storage. The catch is tho, you stop paying… you loose everything you had on the cloud that wasn’t backed up to a physical device. You’re guna want your shit backed up as a safety measure anyways because you can’t control much of anything if all your pc data is on some company’s cloud server. They increase prices, tough shit. They have security breaches, tough shit.

I’m sure a bunch of lemmy users can chime in with self hosting cloud options for secure cloud storage or something along the lines but I’m answering with an understanding that you might not be ready to dive that deep into something like that.

Cloud storage is good if you are in school, travel alot, work on office on somedays while working from home others, or for sharing data between multiple parties.

If everything you do is going to be on your own local pc, then fuck the cloud.

Oh yeah one last thing, if you delete a file on the cloud, there is no recovery wizard, that ahits gone doggy. I can thank Dropbox for that harsh lesson.

Have a huge extended family. Reached out to as many as I could to offer to pay for the publication of 1 extra “family xmas” card of their family’s Xmas cards they were guna send out anyway. The 1 extra card I paid for each had me as a +1 in their family Xmas portrait to send to my mom as a prank. I’m a single 37y/o dude who has never bought a xmas tree much less sent out Xmas cards. Started the adventure in the fall. Traveled to 3 states visiting cousins abroad.

The first card that arrived to my parents made it all worth it. It was one with my closest of age cousin and his new minime addition to the family. So my mom thought it was such a well thought out and loving joke that I visited them and did their xmas card portrait with them. Then the next one came and the next and the next and the next and the next…

I’m not say I batted a thousand but I got a very respectable industry share of the 20 something 1st cousins and 49 total 1st cousins and once removed 1st cousins (kids of my 1st cousins). It made my family’s holiday season. My mom was in tears laughing telling our Texas relatives what I did. Between that and the retropie I made for my dad, I’m not guna lie, I fucking killed it this year.

The most shocking revelation tho is that I haven’t paid a dime to use synce and it’s been my only means of accessing Lemmy since I annexed from reddit. There is an option for premium but there is nothing about the free version that I would feel I’m missing out on something enough to pay for it.
