Former presidential candidate and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley announced on Monday that he is entering the fray. But many more names are already circulating.
One of the people most often cited in Democratic circles as a possibility for DNC chair is Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler.
I wasn’t familiar with Wikler—but after looking over his bio he seems like a surprisingly solid choice, with ties to Aaron Swartz, Al Franken, Larry Lessig, Russ Feingold, MoveOn, and The Onion.
(And I do think the Onion is relevant—it shows an understanding of messaging, and of appealing to wide audiences.)
I don’t think Wikler is a bad pick. He’s done some good work in Wisconsin, I’ve been on a lot of organizing calls with him.
My main concern would be that he’s not aggressive enough. I want someone who’s going to go after Republicans with every ounce of force possible. I don’t know if Ben is that guy.
