Does whether or not Ukraine can win affect the calculus for the Biden admin in any way? Politicians on both sides have described the war as a way of killing Russians without spending a single drop of American blood, and every bomb sent justifies/enables more campaign donations.

The only thing that would be problematic for them would be a quick victory or loss.

I imagine the dems understand that Ukraine can’t go on for much longer, but they just want it to hold out until the election is over.

It’s hard to imagine why. What is the constituency that’s going to be demotivated from voting against Trump if Ukraine sues for peace?

Dems? None, but Trump could get some lazy rep hawks to vote harping on how dems are incompetent at imperialism and he would be better. After all elections in US are usually decided not by % of supporters but who mobilises their voters better to move their butts to booth.

I mean Ukraine “victory” plan is, depending on version, either: a) The same as usual, that is unconditional surrender of Russia, which obviously won’t happen; b) Ostensibly the same but aimed at excusing themselves before the west from starting the actual peace negotiations; c) Manufacturing conditions for open NATO intervention

None of those is something that would impress US, but they will likely go with a) because collapse right now would be a political bomb and after elections it would be something entirely different regardless of who wins (like Afghanistan proven, nobody in US even remember that rout now).

It’s really c at this point. The AFU is collapsing all across the front now, and even Zelensky is now admitting that Ukraine will lose in short order unless NATO puts boots on the ground.

NEW YORK—The Biden administration is concerned that the Ukrainian leader’s plan for winning the war against Russia lacks a comprehensive strategy and is little more than a repackaged request for more weapons and the lifting of restrictions on long-range missiles, U.S. officials said.

For months, President Volodymyr Zelensky billed the plan as a framework to defeat Russia, and he is set to brief President Biden on the specifics Thursday during a high-profile White House meeting, the first time the Biden administration will get to hear the framework in its en
